Has anybody tried the spike-it color-c-lector. it is the hand held electronic gadget that is supposed to tell you the best color of lure to use for that particular water your in. I was thinking about trying one out, but i figured i would get yalls expert opinions first.

I have the old one and the new digital. I love to use them on crank baits and other hard baits when nothing else seems to work. There was 15 years of reseach went in to the new digital one. They both work about the same to me . They work off the sun penatation though the water and the color that show up best in that water depth. Hope this helps.

I have one of the old ones as well. I can tell you that is not in the boat now. However, when I was using it I believe that it worked at least I think it did. I went fishing with a buddy several years ago and he was telling me how a certian color was killing the fish. The color c-lector said to use a different color. I was kicking his bu** until he changed to the other color. Then later in the day the sun came out and the catching slowed down. The color c-lector had changed to the color he started out with. We both changed and the fishing improved greatly. So, does it work - probably. Do I still use - no, but probably should. As mandingo said it is all based on the light penetration and clarity of the water.

I have one of the old combo c-lectors that reads temps, PH and ideal color for that depth. I found the temp and PH to be much more informational. Oh and same here no longer in the boat.
