Be advised ... TVA plans to open the spill gates on Chickamauga sometime today. Operating guide shows lake level two feet above summer pool. They've got to move some water through the system in a hurry.

For us tailwater folks, that's bad... of course the fish don't care, just makes it hard (or dangerous) to fish. But maybe it'll turn the Nuke bite back on???

Regardless, I picked a good time to head for Florida... going down with friends for a few days with high hopes of catching a few reds, gator trout, sharks or whatever swims our way.

emoBigsmile emoBigsmile I'll be sure to report on the nuke catfish bite. Hope my hernia will hold up to those big blues!! emoBigsmile emoBigsmile

Do you seriously have a hernia Eric? I'm about to get one from carrying bait around, lol, a hernia would suck but if you developed one from big blues, that is just classic

I love this high water. It was like fishing a different lake last night. This high water will definitely help with the recruitment of all the baby bass fry that hatched the past week or so!

Good point Churly... TWRA Biologists attribute the current crop of big bass to the Spring flood we had in 2003. I'm not sure how the "timing" on this one compares... or how long it will hold... but it sure can't hurt anything (as far as bass spawn).

I just crossed over the CB Robinson Bridge and it looks like they have opened almost all the gates. There is a lot cfs pouring through now and I am happy to know it is not adding any velocity! Sorry for being a jack¥¤€ but couldn't resist.

I am sure all of the quality fish had nothing to do with the grass being back. It amazes me that all of the three, four, five, and big mama bass were born in the same year. The high water will help, especially if it stays up for a few more weeks.

Unless you bass fish below the dam, then the high water will hurt the spawn (smallmouth especially).
