Different retrieves work at different times, usually a slow retrieve just off the bottom works best, every now and then pop the tip of your rod and let the blade fall on slack line, sometimes this will trigger an awesome bite. I like the Picasso 1/2 thumper and the rattle head baits night time spinner bait, both with a craw trailer for added vibration.
Just fast enough to keep the blade thumping. I go as slow as possible. I will warn you though if you fish them slow you'll probably want to go without a trailer hook. A bigger fish can actually gut hook itself when slow rolling with a trailer hook.
Just beware of that trailer hook. Some models come with one already on there and I always remove. It wouldn't be a. If deal if you're burning it over the top of grass or other cover but when slow rolling deeper and slower they really get it. Most of the time it's way in their mouth.
