I am finally caught up on sleep and work enough to tell you about the trip we took this past weekend. This was our second trip out of Grand Isle Louisiana with Fish Commander guide service chasing yellowfin tuna.
These guys flat out work their butt off to locate and stay on the tuna bite year round and I would suggest anybody hooking up with them if you like hard fighting fish.
We primarily fish around the extremely numerous oil rigs dotting the Gulf of Mexico that hold the baitfish, which in turn attracts huge schools of tuna and other fish. We found tuna at multiple locations, but not the size fish we were after until we got 115 miles offshore this time. But man oh man was it worth it! When the captain tells you "This is the best I've ever seen it" you know you were part of something special. We lost count during the chaos that is tuna fishing but I'm pretty sure we caught a total of 21 yellowfin and blackfin tuna. Yellowfin is second only to bluefin in sushi grade.
I hope you enjoy the pictures and the information as much as we enjoyed the trip. I'm also including some pictures we took of the state park on the island and also the incredible shrimp and crab boil I made the night before our trip using product purchased straight off the boat that line the canals on the way to the Fishcamp's
