Tim and I had big plans to crush a pile of white bass, then weigh giant catfish for all to gawk and point fingers, it was a good PLAN.

We arrived about 7:30, and the fish got fired up right away below the RR bridge, the bank was FULL of anglers trying to catch a few fish busting all over in front of them. I saw the ol bank-beater Jaskynard trying to cast under my line to steal my fish!

Tim and his son were using the popping cork, while I stuck with the carolina rig. While I caught more whites, they DESTOYED me on the skipjacks. I tried white and silver in small and med sizes, not as effective untill I put the float on as well. The real issue was there was waaaay more skips than white bass this day, and they are like wolves...hungry wolves. While the whitesmade two GOOD jumps early, they tapered off quite fast and the jumps became far smaller and less frequent. I was hesitant to move up to the dam in fear of missing a jump, stupid move. I finally made the decision, even asking Jaskynard if he wanted to get off the bank and join us, he turned me down, I thought I heard something about dams, concrete, Spur-jin......something like that.

We motored up river to whites busting all down the seam. Got tied off to the wing wall, as the sirens blared indicating a change in the outflow. I decided to try a large chartreuse spoon now, hoping for a lost striper looking for breakfast. First 3 casts, 3 large white bass, one small mouth then two skips after that, and Im on a roll!6 for 6 is a great run, the water is now really humming and the bite shuts down, I mean completely. All except for the skips, Caleb is still wearing them out on the float rig. I wish I had changed over to this spoon early below the RR bridge, Dickey has always said not to fall in love with one bait, it will break your heart over and over. After cleaning the whites later, i realized, the bait it getting bigger and the 2" spoon is really in order now.

At this point we had our fill of skippy's, we must have caught 100 of the dang things, im not complaining, but I was after white bass.

Off to the catfish holes! First two spots, not a sniff. Third spot, I notice a rod bending towards the water and run for it. I snatch it out and feel its a BIG fish. I hand it off to Tim with instructions to not pull hard until I get two lines of of the way. He even asked at one point if it was really a fish...yup, it was, "trust me I say". I get the lines clear and Tim is just making some easy pump and reel, when on the third pump gaining ground, poof, unbuttoned! So aggravating! we never got another bite there, or at the other 3 spots we tried. I had figured the increased flow would have the cats fired up, it did not.

Still a great day on the water, we really didnt get wet, it started to drizzel a couple times, but thats not bad with the Bimini top on the boat. Tim got some whites for the dinner table, and he has a big fish got a way story to tell his buddies.
