My brother is about to wet his breeches with excitement over squirrel season starting on Saturday. Neither of us have done any bona fide squirrel hunting, so I have a question. Is there a better time to go in the woods and look for them this time of year? I'm inside a lot of the daylight hours right now or I would know the answer to this. Is early morning and evening best or does it matter?

Early morning is definitely a good time, get in be for day light around nut trees, you will hear them shaking the leave and the branches with nuts dropping, if hunting with a shot gun you want a modified choke along with a little bigger shot then usual to penetrate the leaves this time of year, I shoot #5's.

from daylight till 9 or 10 is my best times i use a 22 pistol so i have to be close look for the hard wood trees and or nut trees like said above i like 4 shot best 5 or 6 will work also a call will help it will cause them 2 bark then they are not as hard to locate in the thick trees creek bottoms are also good places to sit and watch for them the best advice i can give you is sit still and keep your eyes and ears open good luck with the tree rats

Sounds good! I'd prefer to shoot 'em with a 22, but I think I may have to shoot up, and, well...it ain't worth the risk of a stray round.
