Well had a bad starter so I replaced it today on the Johnson 175. Tried to test it and it was dead at the switch, would not even beep when I turned the key. Tilt and trim stopped working too. Thought it might be the solenoid so I replaced it too, no change. I can jump the solenoid and it turns over like normal, just nothing at the key. Is there some kind of fuse that could have blown? Power tilt is still dead too even at the switch on the motor. Any ideas? All other power on the boat is fine....

there is a main power fuse on the port side of motor on pre 1995 models it is a glass fuse inside red rubber fuse holder on 1996 and up it is an ATC two prong fuse the fuse also has a red rubber tab on one end that holds a spare fuse if fuse blows no trim or engine crank

Well the fuse was blown. Replaced it and trim and guages worked fine. Tried to start and it blew the fuse immediately. Where should I look for a short?

That is a hard one could be wiring harness issue , were did you get the solenoid and did you make sure wires were put back in the correct place when changing it also could be a short in wiring harness in the boat or the harness on the motor what year is the motor

Rechecked all the solenoid connections and replaced the fuse in the motor again. Fired right up and does not seem to have any issues. Must have been a loose connection. Its a 93 Johnson 175
