I have a 1984 15 1/2 ft Cheeta with a Yamaha 115 (same year or close to it). The steering in this boat had been tight for a few months and to make a long story short the box (or thats what I call it) broke. It came apart where the cable goes in. So I need a box and cable. Its about 12 inches long and about 2 or 3 inches wide. The problem is when I look to order one they are round. Is this going to fit, I guess what I want to know is are they pretty much standard? I am pretty good at figuring stuff out so I think I can change and install if I have the correct set up. Please Help?

You might want to take it to a boat mechanic, the motor will have to come off to change the cable. You can do it yourself if you have a lift and a lifting eye for the motor. Some motors have a lifting eye and others do not. You can't measure the cable untill you get it off. Take the gearbox and cable with you when you go to buy the new parts.

Thanks Doc1, I was hoping that it was not that big of a deal, with two teenage boys my boat repair fund stays on the lower end. But I guess I will have to stay of the water for a while and save my money. Thanks agian!
