I do not gut deer, its nasty and unsanitary. I have been using a gutless method for over 10 years. YES, getting the tenderlions out is a breeze also. I found a vido that shows the same method I use. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UHjSVpfBaq0&list=FLC_UVFAipld9pItBX-J30iw&index=2

The only thing I do different is I use a table or tailgate, etc to avoid rolling a deer around in the dirt/grass/leaves.
It certainly makes it harder if your wanting to cape out the deer for a mount, but that's the only time I do it differently.

I like it. Looks pretty clean. I hate seeing people gut a deer and haul it around on the hood of their truck for hours showing their friends with the hide on them. This way has to get less hair on the meat to clean later. I'm kinda old school and you guys may tell me it is not necessary, but I think it would be better if the deer had its throat cut and hung to bleed out. This was a very good video. Thanks for sharing.....Jim

Only problem I see Spur is the purpose of gutting is to prevent spoilage from the inside out. Now that I have time since I'm retired I'm going to try this. I have a bad back and it may cause me some pain but it is a new technique.

I could see it easier on a tailgate or table for sure. (back issues also) but I like this technique.

I may wear a dress, but thats not the issue. Fecal matter and innerds on my meat is a bigger issue than my latent homosexuality.

That coming from a cat lover. HA! Bet he wipes the blood off with the spare pads for emergencies in his back pack.. :p

Yank that butthole out and tie 'er off... Spur knowsa thing or two about yankin' buttholes. Also, Billy? Come on...You know I don't use pads, but I might borrow some of your Depends

This is a very good topic, it was an actual rule at our 1910 deer camp to only gut deer at camp. We hung them up. cape them, gut them and had a 20 gallon container to put remains in. We hauled them off because of the predators, that would other wise feed on them. I know it might sound silly. We also had refrigerated area and water hose for cleaning. Our 19 hundred acres was in Shorter, Alabama and we feed a lot of people.

Sorry Bro. I'm out. That dress wearing Spurhuntress took my last box! But I will say, he needed them. Now he can pee pee and not miss his deer. That's how he killed the doe ya know. Pants full and sat still like a champ. :)

However...I'm fustrated in a big way. I slipped a disc and it settled on my scatic nerve. Been in some real PAIN until today. Thank god for chiroprators! I went to leave for work this morning and a guy hit a deer near our entrance. That's 3 since a week before season started. This one was a brut! 9 points and laying on private property in the sun. I know where they are coming from and have permission...maybe by Sunday I'll feel better enough to put innansit or two.

I would have gutted the deer regardless of what my intent was. That deer was already stiff and therefore a certain amount of internal gases were already effecting the meat. That method looks good if you are processing your own meat. I prefer the Slaughterhouse boneless cut with cubed steaks and Tenderloins in the foodsaver shrink wrap and ground burger in tubes. To me, my time is worth the amount paid for the much better meat processing. Plus ZERO mess, No carcass remains to dispose of.

Very informative...feel like I learned quite a bit. Oh yeah, the video about boning out the deer was also quite interesting.

I've done the gutless route before but not on the ground. I would just rather gut then debone and put in the cooler. I process my own for several reasons.
1. cost, I usually kill 8 - 10 a year and the cost is to much.
2. I know what is in my packs of meat and they are always in a vacum sealed bag.
3. I know what is in my ground deer and it is also in a tube.
4. I don't trust any processors in the cleveland area. Burnt to many times.
