Dr Phillip and I got out this morning for a very short Striper fishing trip. Boy, was it foggy! We fished from 7:30 to 8:45. It was a great morning. We landed 8 Stripers and 1 Drum (that's why I'm king) and lost 2 more good Stripers. The fog never did lift and Dr Phillip had to be back home early. (wife's birthday)

We were using 3/4 oz shadhead jigs that I powder painted chartreuse and attached 5" white plastic trailers. I had our 4 fish limit before 8:00. Dr Phillip did catch the big fish for the day. The fish weighed 20.8 pounds and was 39.5" long and had a 21.5" girth. That fish could have easily weighed 35 pounds if it had been fat. Stomach was completely flat. It is obvious that this fish hadn't been eating as much as it would have liked. I'm gonna have to work in some Striper trips along with my Crappie fishing trips.emoGeezer

FA, I need to get my truck in the shop next Tuesday. We are going to Knoxville next Wednesday. Thursday is Dr Phillip's day. Going to Maryville next Friday. The earliest that I can take you will be on Monday the 23rd or Tuesday 24th. How about then?emoGeezer

Good looking fish DK. I'm after FA, for the BAR. trips I've been known to catch a striper or two. I'll see if I can dig up a picture for proof.

Good report DK. Were they busting the top any? Good looking fish.

We saw some busting shad on top. I fished really shallow today because of what we saw. All the strikes that I got today were very aggressive. They would nearly take the rod out of my hand. The water flow was around 17,000 cfs.emoGeezer

Drove two hours-plus to fish 1:15.... that's dedication. Of course you were there for "prime time." You da man!

We had our limit in less than 30 minutes, Richard. It was time to come home. LOL emoBigsmile I have driven that 2 hr trip many times to fish for 2-3 hours. Use to do that all the time when I was working at Dupont. It was "prime time" at daylight for stripers.

Jon, we drifted in the current and cast our jigs slightly upstream and reeled just enough to keep the 3/4 oz jigs fairly close to the top. Not fast, not slow either.

MadBomber, I am just lucky to have been able to fish enough up there during peak times to figure these fish out. Stripers are the most predictable fish that swims when the TVA is generating and it is between mid-late October to April/May. They are aggresive, eating machines. I opened the stomach up on a 10 pounder a couple of years ago just to check the contents. That fish had 8 fresh skipjacks that were about 7-9" long in its stomach and it was still eating.emoGeezer

Way to go King! Nice sticker on your Outboard too!

I thought that the sticker would add a little class to the rig, David. It makes it easier for fellow CFF'ers to locate me on the water.emoBigsmile emoGeezer

Cheez, you got it. I'm going to take FA probably on Tuesday the 24th. If your schedule will permit, maybe we can go Wednesday the 25th, or Friday the 27th.emoGeezer

Thanks DK but I will be leaving for FL with Paulj and a few more on the 24th and we won't be back untill the 29th. Gonna catch some "specks" and some mossy backs. If it is available I'll take a rain check.
Keep my buddy Al in the big fish.

Those are some gooduns. Man, we used to go below Watts Bar Dam from the bank this time of year in the evenings and wear them out. I don't think you can do that anymore since 9/11. Does anyone know if they ever opened that up to the public again since then?

Not yet and they probably never will. I haven't seen any fishermen on that side since 9/11.emoGeezer
