When the water is low, like it was Sunday the ramp is not very long. About 6 people spent over an hour helping a fellow retrieve his pontoon trailer from the ramp at Suck Creek. He was a Suck Creek ramp virgin who swore he'd never be back but he kept his head high.

He backed his trailer off the end of the ramp and it's a straight down drop if you go too far. There was about 6 feet of usable ramp that morning. Please check the Chickamauga flow schedule, including downstream elevation. (633' is low, 634-635 is normal)

There is a very good reference point for that ramp as well to avoid backing your trailer in the deep abyss. A piece of re-bar about 2 feet long is visible in the concrete near the water, you'll know it when you see it. When the water is near (or covering) that re-bar there is plenty of ramp space; likewise, the further down the water is the less ramp you have.

Heads up!

Good post..... emoThumbsup The same thing is true about the ramp at HBSP. If you back too far down on the left side it also has a bad area. Middle to the right is fine. Most boats right now will not reach the bad spot but give it another month and you will. emoMad Jmax

Does anyone know how long it takes a release to reach certain points down river? When I fly fished it was more important to know, but if I see TVA suddenly dump 60,000 I'd like to know how long it takes to reach me.

As it relates to THIS post, it would be good to know what time someone could safely launch and/or load from the ramp.

Complicated math between CFS and distance aside, I'm assuming it takes 1 hour for changes in the flow to reach Suck Creek ramp. What do you think?
