I got one of these yesterday as a prize for a contest at work. It is outfitted with a Nikon Prostaff 3-9x40. I understand that the X7 is the "mountain" version of the original Omega ( a lb. lighter and 4" shorter). I just wondered if anyone has shot any of these and what loads work best for you?

I don't have the x7, i have the cheap one, the z5 or something. but i love my omega. i think it shot a little better with pyrodex, but i prefer T7 loose powder. i didn't group well at all with shockey's gold crap.

so for me, with T7. i like 110 or 120gr loose powder with a 250gr shockwave bullet (or the hornady version, same bullet). i didn't get to shoot my ML last year, and don't look like i'll get to this year, so i can't remember exactly which charge worked best. with T7 powder, the equivalent of 150gr mag charge is something like 130gr. i got 2" groups at 150 yards with mine. good luck, let us know how she shoots!

Thanks, I was planning on using the shockwave's in 250 grain, but wasn't sure about the amount of powder. I'll play around and let you know how she barks!

I am a sucker, so I use 150 in all mine.

If it says that is the max, I shoot it. emoDoh
With the shorter barrel on that gun, I bet 120grains or so will be the most accurate, but I am not a target shooter.

you can do plenty damage to a deer with anything from 70 grains and up. if you're using loose powder (777) its about 15% more powerful than pyrodex (so don't use the full 150gr of 777 loose), but fine with pyrodex. but with the shorter barrel i'm not sure all the powder would burn before the muzzle.

i also swab between every shot, the omegas can build up a ring near the breech.

Coop, if you use the new primers designed for 777 and Prodex, you avoid the ring. They are much hotter, and have a different burn rate. I bet your saying...."but I have like 350 primers left right now"...

thanks spur, I do have a ton of winchester primers left, but if the new ones will work i'll switch. as long as i swab between shots nothing really builds up. but since where i hunt in virginia is bowhunting only, might be a while before i can shoot the ol' omega again. it's back in TN at my folks house.
