OK, To anyone that may have the answer!

Iputa 96 model 90 HP HONDA 4-strokeonthe potoon. The tachwas old and allows moinsture to get in and cloud up the face,so I bought a new one to install. Installation is VERY simple, only three wires, Send, Hot, Ground.

I could NOT get the new Tach to read anything. Tried every setting on the thing. I returned it as a defective, and last week bought a different brand from another source.

Same stinkin issue, no reading at all. I cannot possibly have purchased TWO brand-new defective tachs?

I put the old one back on, works fine, but I REALLY need to get a new one on so I can monitor the RPM's and optimize my prop selection.

Any suggestions!?!?!?!

Spur, I would call Honda and give them the type of gauge you bought and your motor information. Since you changed motor brands I would think it would have to be either the dip switch settings on the Tach or the wrong pick up wire coming from the harness on the motor to the console.

I have been pulling my hair out trying to get a new one to read on this motor. Everyone had been telling me it must be defective tach's untill some great folks on the Honda Facebook page of all places, helped me out.

Turns out there is some tricky wiring that needs to be done on a Teleflex brand tach, and a 96 90HP motor. They supplied a diagram with color codes and she works perfect now.

Here ya go.
