Hey ya'll! I am just curious as to what are the key factors for you when choosing what local tackle shop you support. is it service, product line, price, location. etc. Also, what is the farthest you would drive for a good tackle shop? Do you prefer a shop that caters to Bass fisherman or would you still shop at a Fly/Bass Tackle shop. I want your honest opinions, now is the time to be critical and let your voice be heard!

Soddy Custom Tackle. #1 service, #2 selection. Pricing is competitive with big box. I would drive 20-30 miles, but not often. Has to be good bass selection, regardless of what else is carried.

With regards to bass fishing lures, tackle, and gear I am just fed up with the local tackle shops. They never have anything i want in stock and when they do it isn't enough. However, it isn't their fault, because it is just impossible to compete with sportsmans warehouse, bass pro shops, and cableas now within literally 5 minutes from me. I use to own a small business and I broke even with my expenses/revenue after I liquidated my assets because I just couldn't compete with the larger companies. To illustrate, I don't know if anyone has been to bass pro shops yet but they have about every lure you can think of there and cabelas has an immense array of fly fishing lures, tackle and gear. In summary, my biggest factors deciding where I shop are #1 selection, #2 variety within the selection #3 location.... and I would like to also note that I never never never order lures or tackle online because I believe it takes away jobs from our area for the same reason I never use a self checkout lane at Walmart. The self checkout lanes take away jobs. I did order from myluckytacklebox once but I cancelled it asap.

My son has been to Soddy Bait and tackle. Said the guys were very helpful and even swapped a broken duckett gohst for $20. Try to get the big box stores to do that! But they had a limited selection of duckett rods and told him they were not able to get a couple he wanted, so he ended up ordereing them at bass pro.

I live on the wrong side of the river to frequent Soddy Bait & Tackle, but I hear nothing but good things about them. FYI, I DO frequent their neighbor, Dan's Prop Shop, as needed.

I fish the tailwaters a lot so Jack's is my bait shop of choice.... not for artificial lures, just terminal tackle and especially live shiners. If Jack ever goes out of business and I lose my source for live shiners, I'll probably have to just quit fishing. :(

If I'm heading up on the lake, I'll often stop at Hamilton's Bait & Tackle. My only complaint there is that on some occasions, they've still been closed in early morning as I headed up. Otherwise they're great.

Finally, I spend LOTS of time in Sportsman's Warehouse. Sometimes they don't have what I want/need... but that's the exception versus the rule (for me). For a wide selection, good prices and VERY convenient... Sportsman's Warehouse is my choice.
