My brother has been quite ill for some time. He has been longing to go out and finally break his 28lb PB Blue cat set nearly 2 years ago. It just seemed recently everytime he felt good and the schedules lined up, it was raining. I had been carefully watching the forecast, and when I checked it late friday night it read... "30% chance of showers or thunderstorms before 11am, then mostly sunny" So off we went with that in mind.
The morning was beautiful! Perfect temps, no wind, and a nice mix of clouds and sun And FISH, lots of them!! His first fish of the day gave quite a fight and pulled the scales down at 58 lbs!! He goes "Now thats a blue cat!!" Then he hooks a 48, and a 42!! He is grinning ear to ear! We were doing so well we forgot we didn't bring the water or food on the boat.
Then it began...not sure what kinda boat race or something was going on, but we were dead in the middle of the course evidently, and they were so loud we had to cover our ears as they went screaming by. Had to be about 50 of them. We hunkered down enduring the wakes, and making sure we were seen. Sometimes it amazes me how close people feel they have to get when the entire lake is at their disposal. Especially when they are going that fast and that loud.
After they finally all passed, I was wondering what all that commotion did to the fish. It was a little slow, then it picked up again. My brother was tired, and said "Next one you reel in" Im busy working on the sonar, when he goes "Oooo, this one is big!" I grab the rod from him and its on. One of the best fighting blues Ive ever seen. We rolled video of it. After about 18-20 minutes its aboard and weighs in at 70lbs!
Then AFTER 11am the rain begins. But we keep reeling them in, and finally call it quits when the bait expired.
Line up for the day is 70, 58, 48, 42, 35, 31, 30, 30, 30, 25, 22, 18, 15 and about a dozen smaller ones.
A day he wont forget!! Nor will I.
