Ok, I feel a preface is in order, seeing how CERTAIN persons cant understand how I seem to fish all the time emoPoke
I live out of town over 3 hours away. My work shift is about 3am-3pm. In the afternoon after work, I can either fish or
waste my time doing whatever in town. I dont mind going shopping a time or two, but Id rather do something I love and
that would be pleasing to the Lord staying out of trouble emoAngel
Anyway, to prove I have a job, I invited my TVA project manager Steve at Sequoyah Nuclear to go on a big cat hunt. He
is an avid bass guy, so this was a bit new to him. First I forget bait so I had to turn around and get that...lost 35 min there.
We hit the river and I run him down on our drifting methods. I get my new V2 trolling motor setup and its baits down.
Literally 15 seconds later its game on and Steve does some good battle with a nice 30 lb blue!! One problem, he tried using
his bass teqnique of holding line to detect bite and he got a very lovely massive burn from the braided on his hand. His words
were..."Ok lesson learned, there is NOOOO mistaking when they hit!!"
I improvised and used a very undergunned rod to setup a second drift rig so I could fish too. reel and line were good, but the rod
had no backbone for a "biggun"
Second drift and the little rod does a curly cue....that fish was all over the place, I think I did about 3 laps around the boat keeping up with it.
Steve took it for a while to feel the power of it and said it felt like a swimming log. After a long time, she finally comes up and it weighs in right at 60 or a tad under. Steve was amazing at how big the fish around here can get!
on the next drift we both break off our only rigs in the same snag.
We hit a my honey hole, only to AGAIN loose a very big fish. Sam has given a recommendation to maybe help me avoid this string of big losses.
We boat a few smaller fish, and after another massive take down that unbuttons we call it a night!
Great trip Steve!
