Thought I'd share this one with the group...
A couple of weeks ago at the CFF Classic, my boat started to act a little "funny" Wouldn't idle just right , smoked pretty good but ran very well. As the weeks progressed, two, it got worse. Wouldn't stay started and idled in gear really rough...but ran on top end, very well. I thought maybe it was time for some plugs and simple maintenance so I started to gather my stuff so Fish N Fun could take care of things. (Yes Tom, I had full intentions of letting you guys do the work )
The something really started to bug me about the whole thing and before I set in on maintenance, I decided to just run it up to Arrowhead Marine where I purchased it. Make sure it wasn't anything bad....well...it was. #1 Cyl was down and not holding pressure right. Seems I had a blown engine but not blown apart.
Thank God I had 3 years warranty...or did I?
When I purchased the boat, the wife and I made sure we had 3 years on it. This was confirmed several times before signing! Yamaha on the other hand said I was out of warranty on 5/09. Talk about making me sick! My card said 5/2010 !!! Yamaha didnt get my info right in the computer as far as I was concerned! Arrowhead wasn't sure what was going to happen next but they felt that Yamaha would work something out.
2 days later, I get the call that Yamaha would fix everything and cover it under warranty. A $7,900 value! New power-head, injectors, reeds and all the pumps! All they wanted from me was to cover plugs, water propeller, and Filters. OK...No Problem!
Now some friendly advice...
Even though Arrowhead worked things out with Yamaha and with Yamaha stepping up to cover it, I cant say enough about documentation! If in my contract was the warranty info for the motor, and if I had kept up with my warranty card (lost it) I would have slept better for 2 days and not been sick to my stomach! I'm telling you, I was a nervous freaking wreck! Money is extremely tight and limited right now. There's no way I could afford any of that!
So have things put in writing and keep track of your cards and paper work. I lucked up with a great dealer and Yamaha's awesome customer service!
Should be breaking it in within 2 weeks.
