I stopped by Wrechen2's place on the way home for some tips on how to run down an intermittent electrical problem on my Merc. Wow, was I impressed. James not only gave me some tips but threw in a couple of items to help me isolate and repair the problem. We're lucky to have such good and knowledgeable help here on CFF ! emoThumbsup

Thanks James ! emoThanks

Yeah, he's been so helpful to so many people. The administrators need to come up with a Wrenchin" bat signal" emo icon!

Yeah, they could replace the alert button with something really usefull ! emoThumbsup emoBigsmile

It tells everything don't it!!!

One thing we didn't talk about is water in the fuel. On the fuel filter on the starboard side there is a filter with a water sensor in the bottom. It will sound the alarm also in a very unique way. Remove the sensor and catch the fuel and check for water.

Go to section 3D page 17 in the manual I gave you.

You asked me about bolton HP increase so I did some research on the engine you have. It is a 2.5 150 (97-04) and uses the same sleeve as SOME of the 175's (96-04) thus has the same porting. If you install a 175 ECU of the correct year and set the timing as well you have a 175HP engine now. The porting is different from a 200 by .050. Some of the 175(93) have the same porting as the 2.5 200's non-"o"ring heads. But I went by your application. I have a couple 200hp ECUs that if you would like we can throw on there and see the different but will more than likely be fat and not run as well as they could with the porting changes, but should see a considerable amout of increase. I am porting a 175 EFI I have to 200hp specs so it will be a 200 when I put the 200 EFI system on it.

I had already checked my filter for water. It was clean.

Among other improvements over my manual, the CD did have a voltage check for the motion sensor return circuit that wasn't available in other literature and will nail it as either good or bad. That's a big plus. emoThumbsup

I wouldn't mind bolting on 25 more horses but theprice of computers for that EFI engine are out of sight and my little 150 sure does run good. Course if you run across a good used one at a decent price.......I don't have a problem with the banks being blurred when I'm on plane. emoBigsmile

Thanks for checking into that. emoThanks

Usually you can find the ECU for around $200-$300 sometimes cheaper if you know where to find them. Like I said, we can bolt on a 200 ECU and see if it likes it!

Later!
