“In every thing, give thanks: for this is the will of God concerning you.” I Th 5:18. Another translation says it this way. “No matter what happens, always be thankful, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.”
It is hard for many of us to give thanks when we fall into the many tests, trials, and temptations that we face everyday. We don’t choose those tests; we just fall into them. But, we do have the mandate to give thanks in them because we know that God will not allow anything to overtake us that we are not able to withstand and overcome. God is our strength and our portion forever.
So, in this Thanksgiving season, as many travel to be with family or have family travel to be with them, let us approach this day with gratitude in our hearts to the Lord. If there are any fences that need to be mended, let us do that with grace and love in our hearts. May we have the spirit that the Pilgrims had on the very first Thanksgiving in the new world.
“And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. Write, for these words are true and faithful.” Rev 21:5
