Lots of traditions over the years that have gone by the way side.I maynot be as old as some, but older than most on here. In our ways at least. I am thankful that there is a greater being that has given me an opportunity to be alive. I thank God for the family I have and for all the blessings that he has so freely given to a very unworthy person. I thank God for my friends and for the chance he gives me each and every day to awake and walk on this great planet we call earth. I thank him for our health and for being there for us to lean on when we are down in the valleys and for being there to bring us back to reality when we are on the highest of mountains. I give him thanks for each and everyone of you guys and gals who are here and for the service of our military men and women all over the world who helps to assure our freedom day in and day out. To them, I want to say Thank You!!

Our traditions have changed over the years, I can remember when I was a kid, Thanksgiving weekend was a family work week. Our day of thanks was visiting family and friends, fellowshipping with all who came by or we went to see.

On Friday after Thanksgiving, instead of rushing off shopping. Our family met at my grandfathers house for a hog killin. We would kill anywhere from 6 to 10 hogs for our families. Each was butchered and cut up, either frozen or mostly salted down. Lard was rendered off and cracklin cornbread was made for supper. It didn't matter if you were young or old, you had a job to do, whether tending the fire or cutting or cleaning for the others as they worked. It was a family thing.

Saturday brought on a new day and a new chore. Saturday was always corn gathering time. The horses would be hooked to the wagon and we would enter the fields at daylight. Gather corn and haul to the corn crib. When dinner time came we got to sample some of our work from the day before. Usually a baked ham with corn and taters from the gardens we had made during the summer. It was a feast that we enjoyed but we had worked hard to accomplish.

Yep, times have changed, but in our hearts and minds we should always be thankful for what we have and for what we need. If it wasn't for our wants and needs we wouldn't have anything to work for would we?

Wishing everyone a blessed and safe Thanksgiving weekend. May God bless and hold you close as we travel thru this old world each and every day.!
