I have hunted four days so far this last week of black powder season. I am on a prettydecenteight pointer, OR WAS!!! I saw him earlier in Bow season, I saw him one day this week pawing scrapes to my right, I was watching a big Doe and the buck walked about twenty yards behind me and caught my scent. I saw him good as he crossed my shooting lane to my left and this morning he crossed in front of me down in a creek bottom. He was moving from left to right. Less than Ten minutes later ... "Ka- Boom". About thirty minutes later I saw a hunter walking around on an adjacent lease as if he is looking for a blood trail. I climbed down, waved at him and went to assist him in tracking "my" buck.. We looked for over an hour and the blood just seemed todwindledown to nothing. The fellow gave up the search after we ran out of options. While be waited, I got down in the creek for him to see if the buck dug in to hide in the creek. The hunter explained that he had already killed a doe this morning and stated that he now wished that he had not even shot at the Buck.

Thinking "MY" buck was history I trudged back toward my stand togathermy stuff. As I neared my tree stand, I saw a Deer run out from behind it. Not thinking too much about it, I went on to my stand. The other Hunter and I had tracked the deer back toward my stand before he gave up and left the area. I got to thinking how that deer I just saw could have been the Buck. Sureenough, good blood, I am very good at tracking and could not find a single speck of blood after that. I searched for about three more hours to no avail. I just went home tired and frustrated.

I really hate it when that happens and the deer goes to the buzzards.

That is a shame David. I wish that you had found and gotten the deer. I suppose the buzzards will only get what the coyotes leave them.

It happens, sucks, but hunting has it's moments that make you want to give up some times. The hope that there is a bigger deer waiting around the bend keeps the trophy hunter going back, looking forward to hearing how big the next one is David.

I certainly hope so! The hunter who shot him thinks he hit him high and back. The blood was very watery and bright red and only bled when he stopped and went down hill. Possible high gut shot hit. About this deer, he traveled up hill most of the time after being shot.

What I hate worse is that aGut shot is a sure slow killer.

I shot a doe two years ago that went up-hill all the while bleeding all over the place, rubbing trees, falling down, laying down, etc. Never seen that before. Tracked it hundreds of yards, then is just stopped bleeding. Craziest thing I ever saw.
