The Big G,...man, did it ever rain!!!!!!!!!!!!!!10/19/2006

I had two of my good buddies come down from Vergina to fish with me on some of our lakes. Well someone let the plug out on the sky and it rained on us the whole day. Today we went to the G and luanched out of Jackson County park. Tried in the bay for a while and hit a couple islands and nothing. We then went out to the edge of the river and started fishing there. I was throwing a large loud white buzz and had a gator explode on it. May have been a large bass. It doubled my rod, took it under, I set the hook and it came off.emoBang Working the area a little longer I had another one try to rip the rod out of my hands and this time I got a hook in it. Boy, did that fish fight for it's size. I got the net under it and it wieghed 4 lbs 2 ozs. I thought it was a lot bigger when it hit. They were not hitting much but the ones that did were killing it. I missed a couple more and than caught another one only about pound. My buddies managed two with one slick and another 2 lbs and 8ozs on spinner baits. We moved around a lot but never really got a lot going. I had a couple more big blows and nothing. We finally moved to a bluff in an effort to find something and they were in fornt of my boat on worms so I was throwing a fire tiger crank and as I passed a fallen tree another big bass tried to take my rod away. I set the hook hard and the rod doubled. It went straight for the tree.emoBang Got me hung up and came off......you see a pattern here? Today was the big fish came off day.

Finally about 1:30 we headed back and fished some of the islands again around Jackson park. I was throwing a spook Jr. off and on all day and had not had a hit on it but decided to try it one more time before we left. Just off one of the little islands I saw some shad move across the surface and pitched it over there. It no sooner hit the water and a healthy 2+ killed it. Finally number two keeper.emoSmile I had just let it go made a few more casts and WHAM!!! Aother killed it, got the net under it and it was just over 3 lbs. Had one more blow up after that but then we dicided we were so wet we were heading home.

Maybe tomorrow will be a little better and not rain on us all day.emoScratch Still it was nice seeing my ol' buddies and catching a few.emoRain Jmax

Well at least you didn't get skunked!! It sounds like with a little more luck on your side,it could have been a fantastic day for ya. Wish I could have gone!emoBang

My dad's been down there this entire week and had similar results as what you've posted. The only thing that they can fool the fish on are horny toads. He says that they're not getting a bunch of activity and they tend to lose the ones that do blast it. He says that you'll go a pretty long stretch w/o a bite and when one finally shows itself it'll scare you so bad that you just pull the lure away. He's been launching out of Jackson County park and another small park down lake from Goosepond, the name escapes me at the moment. I'd love to learn that lake better. I went down for a three day week at the end of May, I think, and I was so lost in all the grass.

Ah,The one that got away.emoBang That lake will do it to you every time. Those fish are awsome. I think that's what keeps you wanting to go back. Great post,better luck next time.
