There's a meeting being held tonight Jan.15 at the Council for Aging Center in Jackson County Park 7:00 PM to discuss the elimination of all weeds in Roseberry Creek. The homeowners are asking the City of Scottsboro to come up with $90,000 to help with this project.
I hope the City of Scottsboro remembers how much fisherman add to the economy of Jackson County before they approve such an expense. The new herbiside they want to use is said to eliminate the weeds for up to 3 years because it kills the root system. It's labor intensive because it has to be closely monitered and the chemical will be drizzled on for up to a six month period before it can do it's job.
I also hope those involved with poisoning our lake will also consider that we get our drinking water from Lake Guntersville. The chemical TVA uses now goes into the water but does it's job and is flushed out but a constant drizzle for 6 months could be detrimental to peoples health, not counting what it does to the fish and other species.
I hope everyone that can will pack this meeting and let the property owners know that they don't own the lake, only the property that their homes sit on. Their property ends where the lake begins.

I WOULD HATE TO SEE THIS HAPPEN.I HOPE THE THE RIGHT DECISION IS MADE.I HATE WHEN PEOPLE TRY TO CHANGE THE HABITAT THAT HAS BROUGHT SO MUCH TO THE AREA.SAD

If the Gunterville lake area lost its fishing industry, it would be devistating to the Local economy!

Last year they killed quite a bit in the back of the Creek in places. The buttholes have been killing it in Criders every year.

i have never been one to cause trouble BUUUUUUT!!!!!!!!!!!

i think beetle just needs to learn how to fish the grass!!!

ask anyone on here who was fishing in the late 70s-early80s- man that stuff was great

Most of that creek is shallower than 3 ft. So if they spray the grass will it have a better recreation use? I dont understand why the mowers are not being discussed.

Really all they need to do is take a mower and cut some paths out to the creek channel. The water runs 10 feet from county park in the channel out to the River. Coming in from the River on the left is a big residential development going on and I would say these are the culprits along with the big boat owners at the Marina.

Where I used to love having the grass on Chickamauga and will gladly welcome it back, the truth is the lake didn't even compare to what it is today bass wise.

It's a constant struggle every year. I don't have a problem with dock owners that want the grass cleared so they can swim or get their boats in and out but when they want to kill every weed in the area thats different.

I was told at a meeting concerning the spraying of Nickajack last year that TVA only has 2 mechanical harvesters. One stays on G'ville most of the year and the other maintains the rest of their lakes. I only saw it once on Nick last summer. I was also told Alabama residents do not need a permit to use herbicides. I guess whoever can afford it can spray at will. TVA also offers tools for anyone to use for weed removal but that means manual labor.

It would be a shame for taxpayers to have to foot this bill. Owners knew the grass was there before they bought the property. With all the environmental groups out there it seems like one of them would check this out. Putting that much herbicide in an area can't be good for the water, much less fishing.

Attend all the meetings you can and voice your concerns.

With everything going on right now in the economy, the only thing these people have to worry about is Grass in the water! WoW talk about priorities! emoEnforce

I was afraid that would happen with all the new lots and housing construction ther the last couple of years. The ran all the duck hunters out two years ago, now kill the grass, that's good!
