Reckon I could call it Mission: Fishin or something, but regarding the earlier thread about helping with this ministry project, I can't say thanks enough to those who responded on thread or off thread. I actually heard from more volunteers than we could put to work, which puts me in the awkward position of having to figure out what to do.
I have found that at least half the guys coming are complete novices, at least to the degree of the following quote: "I know how to work the reels that hang underneath!" Due to this, I'm opting for a catfishing trip over a bass trip, since (and OH I could be in trouble for this) bass fishing tends to take more technical skill, between lures, lure action, fishing structure, and knowing how to cast a pole. Truth be told, if I had more technical catfishing skill, I'd have bigger and more consistent catches, yet I think a cattin trip will be as user-friendly as these guys need, and the chance of hanging a 5# or more fish onto the end of a rookie fisherman is pretty high. I also feel less guilty eating a mess of cats than I do bass. Guess I've been influenced by years of catch-n-release philosophy.
So, weather permitting, I'm gonna hook up with Cathooker and Daren12 on Tuesday morning early and take these guys out to battle the denizens of the murky depths with nothing more than a thin rod in their hands. This epic confrontation will be followed by a fish fry; alternately we have a back up plan for a bait fry.
If Tuesday's forecast is dismal but Monday is better, we may scramble to try and switch things around to salvage the trip. Cathooker can't go on Monday, so I may have to come begging at the last minute. Bottom line is whatever happens happens, and I'll let God retain control of the details.
Oh, I'd invite you all along, but you'll have to take that up with our new guide. I don't know what caliber or gauge Cathooker keeps in the boat for folks who get too curious, so I'll leave that up to you all ;0)
