Haven't fished since last Friday due to the strong winds, but met up with my pardner today at 4:45 at the WT Ramp, he comes strolling over to put his rods in the boat and says "Dawg looky here I brought my Striper Rod(with a big spoon)'cause I'm gonna catch me one of those Rockfishout there tonight "cause I just feel it in my bones"....my reply to that was it was a stiff North breeze and a touch of arthritis that made him feel that way. He chuckled and said "yea but one of thosebig Rocks on the end of my line will cure all that!" We shot on out from under the bridge and searched several locations around the lower end for balls of baitfish and all we saw was about a dozen hungry Seagulls that rode the gale forcewinds from <Storm Sandy> into town, they had gathered on a sandbar near the highway. Finally they got up and squawked and flew over to a slough nearby and started diving on some baitfish....which of course we chased in hot pursuit. Caught nine good Whites and a couple dozen yellerbellies when THAT DANG MARVIN hollers "There they are Dawg!" I spun around to see 3 nice Stipers breaking the surface chasing the fish in the feeding frenzie....Marvin grabs his other rod and -low and behold- on his first cast at em he hooks up and the chase is on....after a ten minute battle he has that big Rockfish(13.5lb) on its side along side of the boat! Gulls and Rocks...Is it November already???emoToast Fall Fishing!!!

Hey Maddog, thanks for the rockfish. I have cleaned it this morning after an all night rest in my cooler full of ice. Beautiful chunks of my favorite fish to eat. They will grill really good.

BTW, its belly was full of gizzard shad. They aren't feeding on the white bass as you suspected. If you get another one in that size range, and want to give it away, then I will gladly take it. Don't bring me one any bigger though. 8 to 13 pounds is the perfect size to eat. Again, thank you so much. Maybe I'll get to fish again sometime. emoBigsmile emoGeezer
