In the interview with Bill Oreilly before the Super Bowl President Obama stated that he has not raised taxes. The First thing he signed into law was a 160% Federal Tax Increase on Tobacco products.. This tax increase affected the poor 37 times more than an increase in income taxes would have.. Glad he is for the little guy.

One of the few tax increases I support. Tobacco products cause nothing but trouble. If they can't outlaw it then go ahead and tax the shit out of it. People could always stop smoking if they don't want to pay the tax...

100% behind this tax. The ratio of those on gvt assistance that use tobacco products is disgusting, THEN we the people have to pay to treat their tobacco related health issues! emoBang emoBang emoBang emoBang emoBang emoBang emoBang emoBang emoBang

Becoming a burden on society is not a problem of liberty and private property. It's a problem of socialism where one person is forced to take care of someone else. That being the case, the government, in the name of reducing health care costs, assumes part ownership of you and as such assumes a right to control many aspects of your life. That Americans have joyfully given up self-ownership is both tragic and sad

I'm a smoker and I support this tax. I need to totally quit but its tough. I keep trying...

I wish they were 10 bucks a pack!

The real danger of this kind of tax is the fact that it 'opens the door" for others. Resourceful politicians can, and do, figure out numerous ways to get more of your money each and every day. I wish I had the power to
slam the door on each and every new tax, regardless of how good or bad someone thinks it happens to be. But then, I'd need the power to CUT the hell out of that crazy spending. That Fed. budget is one I'd like to manage.

I think fatty foods such as potato chips, red meat, and little debbies cause nothing but trouble. They should tax the crap out of thoughs items as well. Since heart disease is the number one killer in the U.S. any beef should have a 100% federal sales tax since it can lead to heart disease. Diabetes is a rising killer as well. And besides Lance I really don't want to have to pay for your Little Debbie habit. Hey people could always stop eating the fatty items if they don't want to pay the tax. While we are at it lets tax swimming pools since they cause drownings, ammunition since they kill people, motorcycles because they don't offer crash ratings, speed boats, handgliding, rodeos, skiing, bungee jumpers, sky diving, hunting, rock climbing, pork rinds, snow boarding, jet skis, cliff diving, etc................................. All in the name of Public Health & Safety.. You get my drift?

Would not bother me one bit if they taxed the crap out of high fructose corn syrup and partially hydrogenated fats. Both are probably just as about as unhealthy as tobacco and guess what...they are almost impossible to avaid because they are much cheaper to the food manufacturers. So those little debbies I am addicted to are $0.005 cheaper to make and they poison you everytime you eat them and you can't do anything about it but choose not to eat them. I could support a tax on these and other highly refined foods because I know what they are doing to Americans and I know the food industry will continue to offer these unhealthy additives as long as they save a buck. If I were in power I would outlaw MSG. The processed food offered to Americans is toxic to our bodies and many of these additives cause addiction.

Way to go off an a tangent there Snipe. The difference in all the things you mentioned are, none of them are as harmful in moderation as tabacco. Period. So I guess by your standards, a little meth should be allowed, but only with very small taxes attached to it?

Actually to the contrary Heart Disease is still the #1 killer in the US as I stated before. So the argument could be made that fatty foods are just as harmful if not more harmful than tobacco. Legalization of Drugs is a different subject. But part of me says if an adult wants to ruin their life with Meth, Cocaine, or whatever they should be allowed to. What good does it do to spend billions of dollars on drug enforcement when it doesn't reduce the amount used. Do you really not understand what you are giving up if we allow the gov't to control these parts of our lives. Freedom isn't always pretty but it is much better than Tyranny.

I think it should be a personal decision. It's not the Governments job to tax unhealthy products. Its my job to take care of my body. Not the governments...

True, BUT, you are not the one smoking 2 packs a day while on GVT assistance, then making uncle sam pay for all your health care when you get lung cancer.
