When I was at church today one of my fishing friends asked me what the secret was. I laughed and told him luck. Then he asked, "No...seriously how did you do it?" emoScratch I was not sure what the answer was so I just told him about the five fish we weighed in.

Fish Number 1; It was Colby's second cast of the morning. emoThumbsup It was about 6:30. The water was only about 3 to 4 feet deep. There was a combination of grass and rock bottom. Took a shakey head.

Fish Number 2; I caught it on a old creek bed before the lake was made. It was about 18 feet deep. The old creek edge has a couple stumps and rocks along the edge of it. I was using a deep diving crank bait and making long 50 yards cast. Burning it down to the bottom and the fish crushed it. The time was bout 10:00.

Fish number 3; I was flipping docks with a spinner bait, 3/4 oz yellow and white, double blade. This one was about 12 foot deep on the end of the dock. I was taking the blade and pitching to the other end as far as it would allow on the shaded side of the dock. Bring it back out to the end and this bass hit like a freight train. Tried to take it away. Then it tried to go right back under into the shade. It was about 10:30.

Fish number 4; We had gone deep on the river. Colby and I were looking for bass on the graph. It was 36 feet deep. Colby had the hit on a drop shot with a 1/2 oz lead egg sinker and a little four inch green zoom worm tied about 12 inches above the sinker. It was about 2:00.

Fish number 5; We had a nice limit with our smallest one about 17 inches. I knew we needed to get some better quality so I put us back in the grass but deeper then that morning. Fishing an old road bed that was there before the lake was built we were taking shakeys and casting them along the road bed in about 7 foot in the grass. You have to use a very light weight or it will bury in the grass. You just shake it up and let it fall. The bass I think in the day bury in the deeper grass. You try to get a reaction strike with the shakey hitting on their head. Caught three doing this in the last hour of the tournament and the hottest time of the day. It was about 3:50 when the last one we weighed in hit my shakey.

There you go, all five of the keepers, five different places, five different depths, five different types of places and four different baits. After we talked about this I told him I guess the secret was not giving up, not trying to force feed them something they did not want and changing often to try different tactics to get a good limit. emoToast Jmax
