I was asked again to be a guide this year for the CCS fishing class along with some CFF members. My first trip on the 17th, with Sarah and Elsie started out with very cold temperatures. I made a long run upriver, I think the girls were so happy when I stopped because they were frozen. Both girls were very good dock shooters, both catching crappie on 1/32 oz. jigs. I moved again looking for better fish, with the girls still cold, I still found 'em. We started catching some nice crappie, the girls were having a great time. The trip was from 8 till 12. I'm so proud of these girls. they fished hard, never sat down {I had no fishing seats in the boat either} or complained about the cold weather.
Matthew and Garren, my kids on the 18th, had a hard act to follow. The girls had a big day so I was determined to show them as good a day as I could. First stop was a dud, second stop we started plowing crappie. The boys really got to learn what the bite is like and how to dial in their dock shooting skills. Now they understand what it's like to "feel the thump". Both boys caught their personal best crappie and hopefully started a fishing hunger for years to come.
Again, great kids both days that listened to me when I tried to help them and show them ways to catch. It feels good to see the class room advice pay off when they catch based on what they heard and saw. It's all about teaching and learning as you go to becoming great fishermen and women.
