Put in at Wolftever Creek to a very light rain at 6am to do the 7th
Chattanooga Crappie Club Tournament. Prediction of all day rain
kept the field to 9 boats.
Ran to a main river dock where we caught a limit in about 45
minutes. We were using BG Outlaw Special in 1/32 oz jigs. Then
moved on to a main river bluff where we continued to catch
fish, onto another bluff (deep water) where I picked up 1 nice
Crappie. Rain steadily picked up with a light wind, perfect for
our fishing style. We made a huge run all the way to the dam
where we caught more Crappie using the 1/16 oz jigs. Our final
run has us all the way back to Sale Creek where we culled our
best 7 Crappie. On our last stop on a deep bluff we found some
really aggressive Crappie, ran out of time and had to run back to
make weigh in (couldn't be late this time).
I'm not totally familiar with the water around Chester Frost,
while running wide open I hit a shallow water bar and bent my
prop. Somebody clue me in on how to approach the ramp as you
come in. AND I hit it again on the way out.
We weighed in 7 fish at 7.4 lbs taking first place. Had 30 in the
live well. The Crappie bite is really good. I'm still trying to
warm up here 5 hrs later even after homemade soup and
cornbread.
As a footnote, East caught a 20 in Small Mouth Bass while fishing
today. The fish appeared to be older with a bowed back. Not
bad for a day on a rainy lake.
