Set out for nickajack after church this morning decide to put in at shellmound. Before i left the house, as i always do, i put the plug in. Well i got to the ramp and there was only one other boat out. the winds were high and the water was rough. I got the boat ready and got all my rods out. Before i backed the boat in the water I checked just to make sure the plug was in and tight (like i always do). everything seemed fine. Well i head to the cave lake bridge to try it out haven't been on this end of the river in awhile. well i get to fishing and fish for about 15 mins. I just happen to look down in the floor to see water rising pretty rapidly. I start to panic as i have never had this happy. I open the back hatch to see it completely full of water. i shut the hatch really fast just so perfectly to break a rod of mine, didn't bother me at the time lol. i star the boat and cut my pump on and try to head back to shellmound i quickly realize that my boat is not going to make it. i decide to try and head to the cave lake ramp right in front of the church. I finally make it to the ramp and pull my boat up on the ramp as far as i can. I open the hatch again to see if i could tell whats wrong i reach my arm in and discover the plug is gone. I sit there and call people but no one answers or could help me. i felt so hopeless! Finally after about 20 mins i flag down a man driving down the road near by. He was an older man my guess is upper 60s he didn't know much about boats but with out a hesitation offered to take me to my truck. I asked him if he would go to the other side of the mountain and get me a plug. He says yes sure!! I said if you dont have time its fine i understand, sir. He replies "i'll make time". i hand him a 20 and he says ill be right back. about 25 mins pass and the man comes back with a plug. I take my shoes of and get in the water. to put the plug in and have to get about neck deep in to reach it. I WAS FREEZING! finally get it in and i thank the man over and over! I beg him to keep the change but he wont do it. I finally make him take a few dollars. We get to talkin while the pump pumps out the rest of water. Turns out he was a veteran of the military. so i wished him a happy veterans day, he didn't even realize it was veterans day! I was so blessed to meet Don today. A great man and an inspiration he just called it a good Samaritan but to me it was way more than that. Thank God for people like him. It meant so much to me for him taking 30 mins out of hs sunday to drive over the mountain and back just to get me a plug. it sure does inspire me to help some people in need now. he waited there with me for it all to drain and to watch me troll off.....I thanked God for sending me help and letting everything be ok then.........I got back to fishin haha. GOD BLESS Don and thanks for reading!

That's a great story, sorry about the plug, you must have had a plug that didn't fit very well.
What Don did is what everyone should do when faced with the opportunity. I've helped and been helped by some great folks on the water.

Now to figure out which got the message, sometimes it is later in life u finally figure out why this took place.......... emoGeezer emoUSA

Good story! Thanks for sharing.
When I had my aluminum boat, I attached the plug to a stainless steel leader and fastened the leader to the wood transom. I did this as I had forgotten to insert the plug before luanching a couple of times.

Gator i have realized you will meet some of the nicest people on the water.....don was on land but you know what im sayin lol. Rollcast thats a good idea ill look into that. Strato-G Just glad i went to church that morning haha

Listen. "EXTRA PLUG AS STANDARD EQUIPMENT"

Is there a way that you can plug your boat from the inside? I had a Vision Bass boat that I could reach very well inside the transom ... Never had an issue

The plugs with the flip lever release can be opened and pulled out by brush

I had an extra one sittin in the back of the boat is the crazy part it had been there for a mont i guess the rough water just knocked it out cause i seen it back there when i put the boat in the water and all the plugs i use are the screw in ones not the flip kind. I couldnt reach mine for some reason i couldnt even find it from the inside.

Nothing wrong with fishing on Sunday after church...And please don't take the the wrong way...But in my case I had to quite fishing on Sundays.....It seemed like every time I went fishing on Sunday, either after church, or if I skipped church, Something bad would go wrong....So I took it that God just didn't want me on the water on Sunday....Please don't miss understand----that's just me, nothing wrong with fishing on Sunday after church....

I was at Lowe's in Ft O and saw a elderly couple going to there car with a cart with a big box so I watch them
they were parked in the row in front of me so I went over and offered to help them and they looked at me like I was going to rob them or something they were scared to death. I had my work shirt on with my company's name and my van was parked in front of their car which is also lettered so I told them I was just offering to help that they didn't owe me anything so they let me help them but they were still uneasy with me being there.
