I am amazed how many break ins are happening here recently. Every other call I get are about a break-in to the caller or one of their neighbors. The last couple of days I have been called to three more. One in Ooltewah, one in Harrison and one in North Chattanooga. One got a ton of construction equipment and the other two were the same as most....TVs, computers and jewelry. One broke through a side door, one right through the front door and one through the back door. Only consistent thing was no alarm and doors. About as basic as it comes. I know a lot of folks especially this time of year feel they do not want or need to have to pay for an alarm system but most home owners insurance has a deductible of $500.00 to $1000.00. That in itself would pay for the system. Plus in our area you usually get a discount of 10 to 15% off your home owners policy if you add an alarm which can offset and even sometimes pay for the monitoring.

I do wonder where all these TVs are going. How many pawn shops take TVs in every week and do not get info on where and who they came from. I am no police man but it would seem there would be some kind of paper trail to follow. emoScratch With tax time coming up some may want to think about adding an alarm system or if you have one already...let us bring it on line and monitor it for you.

I also feel that all three places were scoped out. All three in nice neighborhoods where the people were gone and not there at that time. Be aware of unusual cars and trucks in your neighborhoods that seem to just be driving around. Especially more then once or twice. They may very well be trying to pattern a couple homes for breaking in. Don't be caught leaving expensive items in your vehicle or out in plan sight like a carport. It is just an invitation to some. emoAngry I have said before...do not tell people when you are going to be gone for any length of time. Maybe a close neighbor or two but that is it. Watch your kids posting on face book and other sites not to give the world a window to break in to your home. I hate to say it but, "think like a thief". If they may want to know then do not do it.

While I am on a soap box I have also recently been at places where they had an alarm but it did not work. Test your system and make sure you are paying for actual monitoring. I have been behind some of our competitors where the person came on with us. My guys went in to program it over to our monitoring center and the phone line had never been properly done and they had paid for three years of monitoring and really had never even been done at all. emoDoh

If you are being monitored keep in mind. Most reputable alarms companies will provide you with window stickers and yard signs. If your's did not, get in touch with them and find out why. The first line of defense is letting the burg know you have a system. emoCrazy

I am done for today, I will climb down off the box. emoGeezer

Let me know if you have any questions, concerns or needs of an alarm system or company.

Hey,a great piece on home breakins.
If anyone might be intrested in a neighborhood watch program conact Janice Cagle with the Hamilton county police department and she can help you set a good neighborhood watch program up. I live in Soddy Daisy and they are great to work with in setting one up also. It help neighbors watch out for their neighbors and really gets the neighbors knowing one another better. If I see a strange car in the area I keep a note pad handy and jot the number down, just in case. I trule hope that we don't hear about anyone else taking something that they haven't earned. But theres people that think people are working for them and their needs. Better stop before my RUGER goes off.

All good points shocker. I work with some of the neighborhood watch programs and people. If anyone wants a quest speaker I do that also for Action Alarms, there is no cost. We also offer group discounts. Most systems we can take over if someone already has one.

I agree with your Ruger comment but these guys seem to know not to hit a home when people are home. None of the recent ones has had anyone there. In the past week I have seen, heard or been to about a dozen and none had people home when it happened. emoScratch They have got to be casing the businesses and homes ahead of time.

You need something more than depending on the police......I've got teenagers smoking dope in the field behind my house almost every day....I've called Catoosa County many different times....By the time Catoosa gets out her there already gone....I had five car loads of kids in my back yard (next to the field) smoking dope at mid-nite, Called Catoosa, and they are still yet to show up....I've ask for extra patrol over and over....Catoosa always says "ya we'll do it and catch them" That's normally the last you ever see of them untill you call them the next time......Don't depend on Catoosa to help you watch you home.

just read where i live down the street from one of the boys arrested for the burglaries in Harrison. My son plays basketball with them everyday....what a shame but i am not surprised!!!

I'm with Hamilton County Sheriff Hammond on this crap! Gangbanggers, home invaders, robbers, thieves, rapist, just send 'em to the morgue! Good riddance and save the taxpayers some money on court and incarceration cost. A couple of rounds are a lot cheaper! Pop a few of the offenders and then watch the crime rate will drop.

Catoosa County is going to get a new sheriff I know Larry Black is running and he don't like drugs so maybe things will change if he gets elected.

Have not had anyone break into my house. would like to see em try. and after that i would like to see em try to get out the drive way. Got plenty of lead i can have slung before they get out the drive way. and IF they can get up the hill i can grab a 270 and run across the paster and meet em before they can get up my mile long drive way.
