I am amazed how many break ins are happening here recently. Every other call I get are about a break-in to the caller or one of their neighbors. The last couple of days I have been called to three more. One in Ooltewah, one in Harrison and one in North Chattanooga. One got a ton of construction equipment and the other two were the same as most....TVs, computers and jewelry. One broke through a side door, one right through the front door and one through the back door. Only consistent thing was no alarm and doors. About as basic as it comes. I know a lot of folks especially this time of year feel they do not want or need to have to pay for an alarm system but most home owners insurance has a deductible of $500.00 to $1000.00. That in itself would pay for the system. Plus in our area you usually get a discount of 10 to 15% off your home owners policy if you add an alarm which can offset and even sometimes pay for the monitoring.
I do wonder where all these TVs are going. How many pawn shops take TVs in every week and do not get info on where and who they came from. I am no police man but it would seem there would be some kind of paper trail to follow. emoScratch With tax time coming up some may want to think about adding an alarm system or if you have one already...let us bring it on line and monitor it for you.
I also feel that all three places were scoped out. All three in nice neighborhoods where the people were gone and not there at that time. Be aware of unusual cars and trucks in your neighborhoods that seem to just be driving around. Especially more then once or twice. They may very well be trying to pattern a couple homes for breaking in. Don't be caught leaving expensive items in your vehicle or out in plan sight like a carport. It is just an invitation to some. emoAngry I have said before...do not tell people when you are going to be gone for any length of time. Maybe a close neighbor or two but that is it. Watch your kids posting on face book and other sites not to give the world a window to break in to your home. I hate to say it but, "think like a thief". If they may want to know then do not do it.
While I am on a soap box I have also recently been at places where they had an alarm but it did not work. Test your system and make sure you are paying for actual monitoring. I have been behind some of our competitors where the person came on with us. My guys went in to program it over to our monitoring center and the phone line had never been properly done and they had paid for three years of monitoring and really had never even been done at all. emoDoh
If you are being monitored keep in mind. Most reputable alarms companies will provide you with window stickers and yard signs. If your's did not, get in touch with them and find out why. The first line of defense is letting the burg know you have a system. emoCrazy
I am done for today, I will climb down off the box. emoGeezer
Let me know if you have any questions, concerns or needs of an alarm system or company.
