Throttle Beeping

My Throttle did an erratic beeping at me when I was idling/waiting to put my boat on the trailer. It had done this once before. Each time I turned it off and felt of the engine. Felt fine- not hot. Started the engine and saw a good stream of water shooting out like it should. Beeping stopped on the restart. Hasn't happened on about the 12 previous fishing trips. The engine wasn't hot and I had a good stream of water shooting out . It just barely beeped a few times and sort of died out like the battery was going dead. Engine runs great!

Any ideas?

Its a 96- 150 Mercury with electric fuel injection.
 
Sounds like low voltage..........may want to ck the crankin batt after has set couple days. emoGeezer emoUSA
 
Engine was running right? Solid beep or intermitt beeping? Intermitt beep is oil system. Multiple items could be with oil system. After running the boat the battery should be charge. Most newer boats have a 40 amp charging system and would have charged the battery after any run time at all.

Engine was running great when this happened. I turned the engine off myself and restarted after I checked to see if the engine was hot Started back just fine. The beep is just weak sounding and yes the beeping is intermittent.
Sounds like I may need to do what a lot of people have done and disconnect the oil injection and manually mix in tank.
 
Yes, That would be very smart. I couln't tell you how many I have rebuilt because of the oil system on a merc. You have a module (only job is to sound the alarm), rotation sensor, and a float in the tank. They are very simple to removed, but the EFI has to be unbolted to clear the vapor canister to get it off. Carb engines fall off. Total parts is less than $20 to remove and is a very simple process.
 
<font size="3">G-man, before you go to taking everything off the engine, take the cowl off and look at the little red lite on the front of the engine, with the switch on and motor trimmed. If it comes on it is water in the spin on filter. Just take the filter off and dump it in a jug or something and clean the filter out.</font></p>

<font size="3">I have had this happen several times to me in the last few years. Usually after the boat has set for awhile. I would fish and come back inand it ran fine. Just when I came back in to load it and trimmed the motor up, it would start beeping. I finally figured it out after reading up in the manual on it. </font></p>

Good point. May be water in the filter. Filters are about $8. Forgot about that.</p>

But still a smart move to remove it. Very poor system. Plastic gear on crank driving a steel shaft??? What were they thinking!! Gear strips and quits driving the oiler. High rpms and no oil. You do the math. Just hope everything works as far as sensors and the module is good. </p>

The fuel pump has nothing to do with it. The oiler blends the oil in the fuel as goes into the pump.

It has a module that sounds the alarm, a rotation sensor that is mounted on top of the oiler shaft with a magnetic ball, a sensor in the oil tank, and a green wire going to the switch box that senses rpm. If the module senses no rotation with engine rpms or low oil level it wil sound the alarm. If all is in working condition. Most of the time a intermitt alarm will go off at higher rpms usually aroun 3K and up. Then what is ususally found is the gear has stripped and looses "bite" at higher rpms and the module senses rpm and no rotation of the oiler shaft. Then the engine is full of plastic that needs to be taken apart to get it cleaned out. Me personally like to mix my own oil plus it has a rpm Limitation. On a 225 promax the rpm is limited to 6750 due to the oiler limitaion. So I have been told by many people. They remove the oiler and have the limiter removed and turn them 7500. Hope this helps!
