Dr Phillip Gawthrop and I had a great 2 1/2 hours fishing this AM. We fished from 7:45 to 10:25. I sort of took Phil to school on crappie fishing, but I must say that he did learn his lesson really well. We fished in Wolftever/Savannah creeks and caught 53 crappie on 3 docks. Again, the ratio of keepers to non-keepers was the same as Tuesday (1-5) Add on 3 bluegills, 3 yellow bass and it was a whirlwind of activity and much fun. Don't you just wished that the fish always hit like that?emoSmile The lure that was most effective was a crappie assassin that was clear/silver-pepper metal flake and I dipped the little straight tail in chartreuse spike-it and fished on a 1/32 oz jig. The fish apparently thought that it was candy. They ate it up.

We were fishing in mostly 5-7 feet of water and presenting the lures with the current. We did catch a few cross current, but mostly with the current. It was strange this morning in that Wolftever creek was flowing out, but Savannah creek was flowing in. I have never seen that before. Could it be that in the very short time that we left Wolftever to run to Savannah the TVA made a change in the turbines and the water began to flow backwards?emoScratch

The flow in Savanah and Wolftever is interesting sometimes. Some of it has to do with where locally it has rained and how much and some to do with TVA generation. In the winter after a big rain it is really interesting to watch the mudlines form and come together at the junction of the two. There is a lot more to what affects the flow in the creeks than just the generation schedule, that is certain. It sounds like you guys were just killing them! That sounds like a blast. I didn't see you out there or I would have said hi.

good report there DrumKing... I know that was fun to get back to catching your favorite fishes....emoParty

I thought you were coming to get the rod repaired???emoQuestion
I can't fix it if'n I ain't got it.... BTW did you let the good Dr. catch any???emoGeezer

Funny you should mention the current in WT, Drumking. The last time I fished over there, we started at the point that separates the two creeks. We could not stay positioned while moving into the Wolftever Creek side without staying on the trolling motor. When we turned back and entered Savannah, it was almost as if it was sucking in. By the time my jig hit bottom near a dock on Savannah, we were already several feet past it. It must be a common occurrence.

It must be more common that I thought. I have just never fished both creeks in the same time frame before. Why would WT flow more than Savannah? The water in Savannah was flowing back in so fast just like you described that we got over on a dock that was just on the edge of the flow and wasn't quite as strong and caught 29 of the 53 there. I couldn't control the boat on the normal docks that I catch fish on because of the current. Found a couple of more docks that are productive though. All was not lost.emoBigsmile Didn't see another boat back up in there except 1 man talking on his cell phone in the middle of Savannah and after the call, he left. We had that portion of the creek all to ourselves. I couldn't fish past 10:30 this AM. Sort of wished that I could have stayed out a little while longer and see how many we could have caught.

If you are going to be home early in the morning, I'll bring that thing by. We are going to Maryville to visit our folks and go to the meeting with Mom and Pop on Sunday. Be back home late Sunday afternoon. If I don't get it to you tomorrow, let me know when I can bring it by next week. Tuesday will be the latest that I can bring it by. I just remembered that we are going out of town for the next 8 days for the ministry meetings. Got to cook for a bunch of preachers and wives.emoAngel

The good Dr is a great hunter. He's killed more deer, turkeys, doves, ducks, etc than you can shake a stick at. When it comes to fishing though, he is a novice. I caught the first 23 before he got the hang of things. I was trying to do the MadBomber thing with him (just kidding)emoBigsmile The bite was very subtle this morning and he didn't know what to expect in the way of bites. I think that he expected the crappie to jar him like the stripers do below Watts Bar dam. After he caught on to when to set the hook, he landed about 12-15 I guess.emoGeezer

I went by your place so fast this morning, Polo, that if you had blinked your eye, you would have missed me. I ran deeper into the creek than I normally do. I didn't fish the docks around you today. Didn't have time.emoGeezer
