I know this is a fishing site but I must complain about how ignorant and rude several boats and fisherman were at nickajack this morning. While duck hunting from a boat near nickajack dam this morning I had two different boats that ran through the middle of my decoys cutting lines and destroying decoys. My partner was ready to lay down warning shots but I convinced him better. If anyone on here was at the Nickajack tournament this morning please pass word along that duck hunters are also on the water and that if the bass boats will slow down during their 500 yard boat ride to cave lake they will be able to see 6 dozen decoys and an 18 foot boat sitting out of the channel. Other than that a successful day.

Sorry to hear about the decoy damage. We all need to try our best to accommodate each other and share the water.

I also hunted nickajack this morning, and had a boat fish in front of my decoys for an hour while I stood in the decoys watchin them snag stumps. They had the right to fish there if there were there first, but they weren't. I wouldn't hunt or fish on top of somebody else. But that's just me..

Not to change subject but I would like to tell this story. The weekend after I buried my dad I was fishing. About 350 yards from a duck blind didn't see a boat figured it was empty. A flock of geese came over the rigde all of a sudden the duck blind exploded with calls . I was like holy crap (live action duck dynasty) lmfao bow bow bow bow ! One goose falls / the rest change direction and head right for my boat . As I watched them I noticed as they got closer it looked like it was raining on the water / well needless to say me an my boat were covered in blood ! Spent about 30min scrubbing the carpet. Cleaned it up and decided to throw one more time. And wake a 9.19 largemouth and just think I was about to leave before the show. Make what u want of it but thanks to some quaks I caught the second biggest bass of my life .

Seems to be a common issue. Someone please pass along to the fisherman doing this that duck hunters are just as passionate about hunting as they are fishing and if someone is already in your primo spot move on to the next one. We don't need confrontations on the water when we all are out there to have fun and enjoy ourselves.

Good story brick bass I would completely understand in your case because you legitimately did not know anyone was hunting around you but the guys I am speaking of ( I have their boat number and description for future reference) were just intentionally being jerks

I bet I know who they were our club tourny was outta shell mound I don't think any if those guys would have done it on purpose.

Not caring to be aware of what you are running through as you Pass an anchored boat too closely is pretty close to the Line of intentional.

As any on here know, I'm a crazy newbie. That said, I've seen a couple folks on the Chick who are decked out with their hunting stuff. Where can they hunt duck on the Chick? (I put in at Wolftever usually...)

Also, besides seeing the decoys, is there any way to tell if someone out there is duck hunting? And how far away should I stay? Would rather find out now on the Internet than later on the water.

No set distance to stay away from decoys but a courtesy of 50 yards while running is greatly appreciated if possible. If not possible just don't run though the middle of the decoys and you should be fine. Thanks for caring enough to ask.

No problem. Thanks! Don't want to make folks upset, scare ducks away, or get shot. (Not necessarily in that order.)

If you see a boat beached on the bank thats another good clue that hunters are on the bank. I was idling into a slew and saw a john boat on the bank. I didnt see or hear anyone but I moved on anyway. Shortly after I heard about 10 shots ring out and was glad I had moved away.

Typically from nov.28th to the end of January anywhere you fish, you can bet someone is duck hunting near you. When you see trucks at the ramp with shity trailers and dog boxes in the bed, there's a duck hunter near you. When you fish at daylight within those 60 days you can bet there is a duck hunter near you. Hope this helps avoid jacking people's hunts up...

HOLD ON, HOLD ON, HOLD THE **** ON, If you were the one(s) camped out on the rock pile marking one side of entrance to Cave Lake and that side of the river, I want to know what you were thinking, or were you? The rock pile and the one on the other side of your decoys mark both the main river channel and mouth of the creek channel, which is the safest way to that side of the river, including Cave Lake. It may not be illegal to set decoys in that narrow strip and hunt over them but some common sense and little decency should've kicked in, then you could've/should've relocated to a less busy area. Did it ever occur to you, there was a lot of boat traffic in that little area? I went thru there after the sun was up and at a speed of less than 45MPH and barely saw your decoys and wouldn't have seen you, if I didn't look back over my shoulder, wondering why the ducks didn't fly. You do know decoys look real? Of course you do, that's why you bought them. You also did your best to blend in with the rocks because ducks have incredible eyesight. Why does it surprise you that fisherman didn't notice your little spread, in arguably one of the busiest pieces of water on Nickajack Lake? If you insisted on hunting there, why put your decoys in the channel? Why not hunt the other side of the rocks and if you had to position your decoys because of wind direction, hunt the other rock pile, it's very close.
You did a great job of making people feel sorry for you but if courtesy is to be exercised, it would serve you and your hunting, to be the one to exercise it. I'm a former duck hunter and have nothing against the sport or the people involved with it but as a responsible gun handler, I would never hunt where people would consistently pass thru my line of fire. Your partner was going to lay down warning shots, please explain. Was he claiming the entrance to Cave Lake as his own? Sounds to me you two had a crappy day and are trying to blame it on people that are more than willing to share the lake with you. What are you going to do if you accidently shoot somebody? You've told the world you have anger issues and are willing to shoot in a person's direction. I'm for the stand your ground law but don't think it means protecting a pile of rocks in the middle of the river. You had two boats run thru your decoys, cutting line and tearing up decoys? The boats that fished in the TX Saturday, almost certainly, would've shut down as soon as they heard the decoys, 20'of line and lead weight beating their foot up. What did you say to them? If that had really happened, I doubt you would be on here whining. The only way you could've picked a worse spot to hunt would've been to set up at the ramp. I'm all for your right to hunt but pick another friggin rock pile and you might kill something other than time or a fisherman.

well the way I see it is the decoys should not have been in the channel but most boats do go to fast in that narrow opening me included I have had a few boats come threw that area as I was fishing around the rocks and wash me up on them sounds to me like a open and shut case of bad decoy placement and too much throttle but that is just my 2

Well sounds like we all know who ran through the decoys now huh. I guess hunters always take a back seat to fisherman. You my friend are ignorant that's all I will say about

Yeah I been thinking the same thing the whole time of all the places to set up that's not one of my first picks. I say at first light they probably thought they were real ducks not decoys.
