Im sure you guys know this year is going to be horrible with the ticks because its so dry. I went out to hang one of my treestands and Had 2 on me. Iwas in the woods maybe 35 min. I had lone sleeves and pants on. I have heard of orderless bug spray for deer hunters. Has anyone heard of this? Just wondering maybe im dreaming. Any suggestions as to how and deal with them. I have hunted my whole life and never have worried about ticks, but my good buddy found out this spring that he has lyme disease (bit by an infected tick, he had the bullseye and the whole nine yards, thank god he caught it early he is taking antibiotics) Just curious thanks guys

The ticks seem to be dieing down a bit now. When working my food plot earlier this year I was getting about forty per trip. What i do is to use Avon Skin so soft with Bug guard and coat my upper thighs, waist, ankles, neck and arms with the stuff before I get dressed. I have had problems with Chiggers getting into my socks. Those things have no mercy. My lower legs are sooo chewed up right now.

Another thing that i use when I am not worried about the scent is Bounce Fabric softener dryer sheets. Rub those things on your skin and they will keep all biting insects off. They are the very best thing to use for the "No-see-ums". After I wipe my skin with one I will tuck it under my collar, in my socks wrapped around my ankles or in the back in my waistband. If you sweat, you can wipe your sweat and that activates the chemical and coats and protects you from bugs.

Several years ago I tested positive for Lyme disease.....I had the bullseye rash and went to the Dr immeadiately. I was on anitbiotics for 90 days and came away just fine. Last year I found a very small tic imbedded on me and again I went straight to the doctor. This time I tested positive for Rocky mountain spotted fever. Again I was on anitbiotics but this time for only 30 days. I cannot stress the importance of being careful with tics. Rocky mountain spotted fever is more common that lyme disease and it can be deadly. If caught early it responds well to treatment. Both disease cause long term serious debilitating complications.
Regardless of what tic repellent you use.please use one. There are several good ones on the market When I go into the woods now, I tuck my pants legs in, my shirt tail in and then have my wife check me thoroughly afterwards.
Robinson labs makes a tic repellent called Scent Shield "No Stinkin Bugs" it has a fall blend earth scent incorporated into it.

What Churly said ! Permanone is the only way to go . Spray it on your clothes and let dry . Do not spray it on your skin . Will last up to 4 weeks . I have seen this stuff kill ticks climbing up my pants . And it also keeps chiggers off of you too . Come too think about the skitters don't seem to bother me as much either .

Permanone is completely odorless . I hang my hunting clothes outside on the clothes line and spray them down really good . Let dry and then store them in airtight bags with earth scent wafers .

I've hauled many-a-deer out of the woods with pants on that were marinated in permanone-its very scent-free, infact it last through several washings, so you can marinate-wash-then hunt in that order. I've got some seed-tick bites from the dove hunt, and those will be last I have all year!

FYI- I have always thought that woods that are loaded with ticks/ chiggers are usually loaded with game since those critters have to have warm-blood to reproduce!
