Tilt will not work on any switch. It will click at the motor but will not raise or lower. 1994 200 hp Mariner. Any suggestions?

popeyedpete - 8/22/2010 1:30 PM Mine did that this summer. It turned out to be a bad trim limit switch.

No limit switches on this mercury.

Common faults arerelays (both would have had to go bad if not working either way), fuse, or a motor.Chances of that many switches going bad is not likely. Other possibilities are motor unplugged, wire cut, ect. You can give me a call and I can walk you through some test. If it doesn't work either way, then switching the relay will not tell you anything. That is only if it works one direction and not the other. If you look at the sticky threads at top of this section, you can see how a 2 wire trim motor are wired up. Hope this helps!

I agree, but was unsure if his motor was all the way up or all the way down.

When the tilt quit working the battery was dead. The battery is new, less than 2 months old. Could this be an indicator to help diagnos the problem? emoGrouphug

Only if the battery is dead now. If you try to turn it over, ONLY FOR 1 (ONE) SECOND, does the engine turn over??? It may be a battery connection. If the engine will not turn over either, that would be a indication.
