A buddy and I came to chickamagua a couple weeks ago to do some bass fishing. We have never been on this lake before, so you can imagine the learning curve. We only caught 5 the first day. But we caught 13 the second day and 13 the third day. Now to my question. We want to come early next year to do some prespawn fishing. Can anyone tell me when is the best time to come and have that big fish potential but also be able to catch pretty decent numbers? I was thinking mid March but that is just me looking at fishing reports. Any advice is greatly appreciated

Truthfully, post spawn patterns in mid to late May are best for numbers. If you want a big bite February and March seems to be the ticket. Or you can fish nights during the summer.

Okay thank you. I want a good day to produce between 15 and 20 from daylight to dark between two people who are pretty good at locating and catching some fish. is this possible say in March here with the water temps in the mid 50s?

Mid March for numbers mixed with size. Had had several trips this past March where clients would catch 30-40 fish with quite a few 4-7lb bass mixed in . Plenty of small ones too. But they are correct about the post spawn bite with numbers. May was killer this past summer.

Thanks guys heck my best day ever on any lake was me and a buddy combining for 70 on a small lake in the fall. I may do both. In March does the rig do pretty decent or is that too late ?
