After having motor problems all day Saturday, we finally worked the kinks out and got to hit the water today. It was a BRISK 24 degrees when we hit the water. We had scouted some nice looking points and began working on immediately. One of my friends began jigging a large tuffie, one kept a tuffie under a small float, and I slowly jigged a 1/2 CC Spoon. Within 15 minutes my bud jigging a tuffie hooked a very nice smallmouth. He got it too the boat and the smallie did some walking as we went to land it and threw the hook. We estimated it 18-20 inches. We worked the area for another hour, without a bite (i did snag a nice anchor line and anchor!)
We then hit other points with no success, and decided to search for bait fish and continue to jig with CC spoons and Silver Buddies. This produced no fish unfortunately.
The water was very clear, and the air was very cold, yet sunny. The water temperature ranged from 47-49 degrees.
We spoke with a fella at the ramp who had landed two 4 lb smallies using float and fly around points. The fish were caught in 12 ft, suspended over 25 ft.
Reports on BFHP reported catches on jerkbaits and cranks.
Although we didn't have any luck it was a beautiful, although chilly day on the water.
