I have been fishing Tims Ford regularly for the past thirty years. I would have to rate this year as one of the best. I have been catching Smallmouth on a consistent basis all year. The smallmouth are coming off the bed right now and they are hungry.I Fished the annual Wade Mangrum Tournament this past weekend and everybody weighed in fish.
A lot of fish were caught swimming a grub and some were caught on a shaky head jig rigged with a four inch cut tail worm. My partner and I caught most of our fish on top throwing a spook. Every fish that was weighed in were mostly females that were laid out.
A lot of the fish are coming off gravel but the bigger ones are coming off the red mud mixed with a little gravel. The weights were down because the fish were so skinny. One twenty-two inch fish was weighed in at only four pounds. The lake is full of sixteen and .seventeen inch smallmouth and the next couple of weeks will be some great fishing.

Great report! Thanks for the Tims update. Maybe I can put some gas in your boat and join you sometime. I am beyond terrible on that lake.

I'm walking out the door to head that way right now. Hopefully, I can find a few. A friend of mine went yesterday, and had 4 keepers for 11 lbs. after work, so I'm going to try and top that this afternoon. fish4 you have a pm.

My old partner won a T Saturday with 15 pounds. He placed 2nd Sunday in another T with right at 20 pounds, it took over 17 to get a check ( 5th ). He flips a jig, always. Saturday up river, Sunday mid lake. That lake has just improved so much over the last 7-8 years.

I mostly fish for smallmouth so I don't run up river a whole lot. The tournament I fished in saturday was a smallmouth only out of Tims ford marina. It took 15 lbs with 5 keepers. most of the fish were ragged looking due to the spawning and had lost a bunch of weight. when folks are on the largemouth up river they are hard to beat in a tournament. I love the new 18 inch rule on Tims, I can sure tell its helped.
