Hey guys I live near Lake Allatoona in Acworth, GA and frequently post on the Allatoona bass forum. One of the guys over there said this forum is very helpful, especially for all the tennessee lakes (being a chattanooga forum and all). I am getting ready to go to Tim's Ford the week of March 10th-March 15th. We have been up there a lot in the past, but it was mostly to striper/hybrid fish. This time I am hoping to do a lot of smallmouth fishing and I was wondering if anybody could give me some pointers of how to fish the lake during that time of the year. I do a lot of spotted bass fishing on allatoona and some on lanier throwing spot stickers and and jigs, so I know the basic patterns, but I'm just looking for as much extra help as i can get.

Thanks guys

I talked to a guy yesterday at the ramp that caught a few on finesse type stuff up river. I have been on a CB pattern right now in 8+ fow. The usual patterns should produce, jigs, jig and minnow, CB. If you are looking for quanity Tims will be tough, but there are some quality fish there. Bring some hair jigs, tubes, grubs and CB's maybe even some SB. Start on the points and work back into the pockets they could be anywhere in two weeks.

Thanks for the advice. I i am expecting a lot of things to be changing up until the time we get there. I'll just have to play it by ear until the time comes.

Normally that time of year there is a good bite on crankbaits. I would throw Little n or Bandit. May have to switch around on colors til you find one they like. I like the craw patters, especially for Smallmouth. Where are you launching from? Also have a C-rig tied on. I like throwing a Centipede in Green Pumpin on the C-rig on the steeper, tapering, rocky points and banks.

when the water gets 50 and above you better bring a jerkbait. They will start moving good on gravel, some have already. I found out over the years that the wind is your best friend on Tims. They can get real finiky on a bath tub day. I like to hit the creeks and channel banks that the wind is blowing in on. I mainly fish small stuff mainly little hair jigs in March and early April then later on in April when they start coming off the bed I will swim a grub alot. You can find gravel all over the lake, pay close attention to the dirty gravel. When fishing a jerkbait a lot of people like to jerk it and stop it I do a lot better by keeping it moving fast and jerking the s*** out of it. Gravel aint by no means the only place you can catch them just pay close attention to what kind of stuff your catching them on...
their not hard to pattern on Tims. Hope this helps

fish4,

Thanks for the advice, its great! Do you think any parts of the lake (hurricane, little hurricane, etc) will be producing more bass than others?

Both of those creeks are good. I love to find the little isolated areas where you have some gravel mixed in with other types be it chunk rock, limestone . or red mud. These transition areas are excellent bedding areas. I usually don't run any further up than The loop and spend a lot of my time down lake. I usually let the wind decide where I'm going to fish. kitchens, Jolly Rock, Lost creek are some of my favorite creeks.
