Jeremy (Jerdog) and I took out my boat Friday night in search of some cats. It had been about 2 years since I targeted them so I was not sure how we would do... We put in at the river park, caught a couple skipjack and a bonus largemouth below the dam and headed out searching at a few holes down the river. Between 6pm-12am we scored a 2lb flat, 8lb blue, and a 28lb blue using cut bait and frozen shrimp. Also missed two other good fish as they took us into the trees. It started out a bit slow at first but turned out to be a great night on the water!

All fish safely released.

Hey those pictures turned out well! It was a good night on the river, perfect temperature and fishing was super. I can't wait for the real fall weather to get here when some of the best fishing of the year takes place. I am looking forward to it. Thanks for the great trip!

Wow, what a blue! I'll bet that that one was a lot of fun. Did you catch him on the cut bait or the shrimp? I have heard a lot about fishing with shrimp even here in the fresh water. Great catch!

The big blue was a great fight! We had to mobilize the boat towards the channel and Jeremy kept the spot light on him because he was trying to take me into the trees. Catching big cats like that is definitely a team sport!

The flat and the larger blue were caught on the cut bait. Both fish we missed were on cut bait as well. I prefer the fresh cutbait because I believe they can locate it better with all the blood & oil it distributes, but I had read on the net about using shrimp for cats so I bought the cheapest frozen stuff I could find. I think it worked out as a great backup. Nothing to cut-up, easy to hook, easy to store, and reusable. The shrimp might also even give way for a more efficient hookset since the cut bait can be tough at times having to let the fish chew on it a bit before the hookset. I was not really sure about it at first, but the 8 lb blue was caught on the shrimp and it just demolished it on a drift.
