I went to the store the other day tring to find a June Issue of Mid-South Hunting and Fishing News.......cause I'm suppose to have a small mention and maybe a pic in it....but I don't know for sure......anyhow I couldn't find it.......but I did stumble up on a Catfish Article with our very own Scenic City Charters Richard Simms in it....It was in the TN Sportsman I believe......kinda like Alabama Game and Fish, but in TN.....Oh yeah if yall get a chance read the article in this month's Alabama Game and Fish on Wheeler Blue Cats.

There are about 26 Game and Fish publications - one for each of 26 states. Georgia Sportsman, Alabama Game and Fish, South Carolina Game andd Fish, Tennessee Sportsman - they are all named either sportsman or game and fish. There are a few articles that run region or nation wide but most are state specific. All are edited in Atlanta.

I just read the June and July issues. The June really turned me off to this publication. They were listing the "Best" catfish places in the state. Guess which bodies of water were not even mentioned?? The Nick, and Chick!!

I was so disgusted, I tried looking for a way on-line to contact the author/editor to voice my displeasure. Found out ALL the contact info is in........Las Angeleees, Kalifornia. emoScratch

So as I was sitting here stewing over this information, a buddy tosses the July issue on my desk. THIS issue has an artilce on two "good" catfish lakes, one of which is Lake Chick. Richard did indeed have a nice inclusion, mentioning both the main lake, and the tailwaters of the Chick dam.

I dont understand why no-one in TN runs a really good "local" publication like "GON"/and the new "AON"?? my vote is for Richard Simms to be Editor-in-chief of "TON" emoBigsmile Richard, can you get this done?

Depends.... how much do you pay? emoBigsmile

Just FYI... Game & Fish publications (and most other outdoor publications) have basic "formulas" they use for determining content. They know that during certain months, they must have certain articles about certain species and locales. It is basically "paint by the numbers." There are only about 17 major lakes in Tennessee so it doesn't take many issues to touch on them all, over and over again. It drives me crazy... even though I admit that sometimes I write some of the drivel.

But the fact of the matter is, they're a money-making enterprise with stock holders and all that business stuff. They know their business plan (formula) insures a profit margin. If they don't make a profit, you don't have a magazine to buy (or not buy, as the case may be).

In fact, I am going to see him this afternoon, I wonder if he will sign a copy for me! If he will, I believe I will auction it off at the meet-n-greet on Saturday. What do you think it is worth??
