Took David Jolley, one of the web geeks for http://www.TNDeer.com, chasing crappie this morning. He done good... of course I dragged him off the "good water" to go exploring for a while but I think he and the Jolley Clan will have enough crappie to make a meal or two. This is an average-sized fish. Of course next to David J, he looks kinda small. emoBigsmile Most fish came trolling but we moved back in the creek on Jmax's hole and caught a few fish throwing jigs under floats. Thanks for keepin' me company today David. There was a creek full of trollers this morning. Saw DHaun and partner (pictured below). Fishin' was a little slower than normal this AM, although I think that had a lot to do with the number of folks fishing and running all over the creek. But the folks I know who stuck with it were close to limits when I left. However I actually believe we're on the backside of the peak. In days gone by the best crappie fishing came in April, but that's when we had primarily white crappie. I believe that since we've got mostly black crappie now, the peak hits a couple of weeks earlier than it used to. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Trolling is almost like cheating! emoPoke emoPoke emoBigsmile You are still my hero there Mr Rsimms. emoWorthy The only thing worse is using minnows that are alive. emoBigsmile Hope I don't get shot at the next time that I put the boat in the water. LOLemoUpsmile emoGeezer

"Sport" fishin' versus "meat" fishin'... if I was retired and could fish every day, I might try to be more "sporting." emoAngel And actually we did go up the creek using some sporting methods... only caught five but three of them were keepers and one was a real horse!

You're a pretty sneeky photographer rsimms. emoLaugh Nice to see you out there! Great Day on the water; no wind and it was a beautiful morning!

RSimms says it was slow. Hummmmm! He about worked me to death the first hour catching what I was calling "Little Richard" Fish. You know the kind of fish I am talking about they are like having to pee on a cold day and figuring out you are 1/2" short of getting it over the boat.

I just finished cleaning all we caught and it's going to make a meal or two or three!

For all of you that have ever crappie fished with Simms you know about his system. Well, count me as a believer in his system. It works. I had a blast.

I did have to teach Simms how to make the fish bite when they slowed down. The fish won't bite when you are sitting there watching your pole. So you have to out smart them. During one of the slow periods I told Richard to watch what I was doing. As soon as I lit a cigarette and poured a cup of coffee the rods would double over.

A good friend, good conversation, a beautiful sunrise and a few fish - life doesn't get any better than that. Thanks Richard - I owe you one. I had fun.

Supper to follow!

Here is the kind of fish picture I like.

Now, David you just had to go and do that didn't you? I'm gonna have to fry some of those babies up now. emoGeezer

I am about to starve to death but too tired to do anything about it. Now David J has to post that pic of those yummy looking fillets. And I saw it. You should be ashamed of yourself for making the rest of us suffer like this. J/KemoLaugh

Wow David J. it looks like you really know how to fry up a mess. I am curious, what type of batter do you use? My fish end up looking similar when they come out and I use bisquick for starters. I think someone told me that my batter makes up more of what they call a tempura.
