I feel a lot of our members just wanted a place to air. There was a lot of airing going on there for a while. Maybe it is the calm before the storm. Maybe some have not been around computers. emoPoke Maybe Doc just got cramps in his fingers. emoPoke Whatever the reason this one has slowed down but it will not die. emoCool Jmax

I have to admit, the recent political diatribes didn't get me rushing back. My concern is that will be a BIG topic when the weather cools and more folks are frequenting the board- and all of our problems will be solved because Congress, Barry, et al,reads their posts.

I'm not a huge fan of our President, but that doesn't mean he doesn't need a vacation! Most stressful job in the world, and they need time to refresh themselves. There was a study and he's spending no more tax dollars on this vacation than Presidents in the past. He's funding the trip with his private money, but tax dollars are spent to pay his body guarded and secret service agents. As it should be. Wow, i just defended him!

If you where the CEO of a company in the situation this country is in, would you be in Martha's Vineyard? Lots of folks struggling to get by and i think forgoing a trip to the coast and leading buy example would have been much more apropriate. Mabye a staycation?

I am a firm believer that people in leadership positions must take time to deflate and refresh. Compounded stress doesn't improve decision making.

I agree and he has a family to spend time with aswell. I hope it is time well spent and i look forward to the better decision making next week.

I think all people deserve vacations. Especially those in high pressure situations. You never know, maybe he will meet a conservative on the beach that will explain things to him in a way he never saw before. Maybe he will have an epiphany. emoGrouphug emoPlease

No the president is just on vacation. Our tax dollars at work!

"President Bush recently spent his 879th day at his ranch in Crawford, Texas, since the Supreme Court, in all its great wisdom, elevated him to the presidency. This according to NPR's "Wait, Wait Don't Tell Me," which noted that Bush broke former President Reagan's record for taking vacations from the White House......No, really. You know, the "busy schedule" that has room for 879 days down on the ranch - which, if you're into arithmetic, works out to around 30 percent of eight years." by Beau Elliot, The Daily Iowan

If i could find a record of President Obama's "vacation days" he has had over the 7 months span in office and coralate that number with the days over an 8 year two term presidency then i we could see who is on track for the record. What really consists of a vacation day for the president though? Are weekends? Christmas? Ramadan? Easter? Halloween? July 4th? The numbers can be skewed to your needs depending on what you classify as a "vacation day". Only days in the whitehouse logged as work days? The president is on duty 24/7. I just think that a trip to Martha's Vineyard during a recession is not a great example to set.

Seems I remember Crawford being called the "Western Whitehouse". So would every day he spent there be considered "vacation".
I sure as heck dont know.... emoScratch

To make that comparison, would Obama need to be going HOME to Chicago for his vacation?

What about Camp David?

I don't believe he has any more compounded stress than the average hard working American citizen that is now faced withpoor employment opportunities, a possible loss of home, vehicle, and basic comforts. Vacations are out of the question for them.

He is well paid for his stress, doesn't have to worry about money, has boards and panels of experts, manyat his appointment, to help with his decisions, and wanted the job knowing it wasn't going to be a piece of cake. To vacation now is a joke. Why not wait until the country is without a doubt on an upswing ?

It doesn't matter to me what Bush did. He is no longer making decisions. And if he vacationed every day he was in office, what does that have to do with the current situation and president. After all, wasn't his whole campaign based around change ?

Keep digging fellahs, this forum is getting stale, have you prowled on the National Inquirer?, The Star?, just to name a few. I had an inside scoop that Obama goes to the bathroom 4 or 5 times a day, even on vacation, is this normal, excessive? Fox news can't be the only thing you watch, man, don't give up now, dig, dig, dig. Corker was so bored with nothing to do that he had to go to Afganistan to watch over the elections, now that is money well spent.

Nobody has to dig Doc1. His vacation is on every news channel across the country. Now the Enquirer, and pottie breaks, there's a thought !emoBigsmile
