That was a really well thought out and insightful reply Carl!
I'm guessing you are bunched in with those that think cyclist have the same right to be on the road as automobiles.
Here are some reasons I disagree with that train of thought:
No operator's liscence or driving education is required

No tag, registration or taxes are paid.

No slow moving vehicle sign for obstructing traffic is used

Do not adhere to only designated bike routes

Constant vandalizing of our paved roads with graffiti to tell them where they're supposed to go.

Not to mention the annoying practices of clogging up traffic while ascending local mtn roads and who in there right mind would ride a bike on hwy 41 around the point of Lookout- where it's dangerous enough for cars.

Plus-they never win in a car vs. bike accident!

<font size="3" face="georgia, palatino">Well, I thought you were making a funny, guess I missed that one. Yes, I am one of those"same road same rights" kind of guy. Just thought I would answer your questions if I can.</font></p>

No operator's liscence or driving education is required
<font size="3" face="georgia, palatino">None is required, you are correct. But neither is one required for tractors, hay wagons, or boat trailers. Most people whom ride with me and my self included, are above 16. So we are licensed to operate a vehicle on public roads.</font>
No tag, registration or taxes are paid.
<font size="3" face="georgia, palatino">Back to the same for tractors, Hay wagons, or boat trailers.</font>
No slow moving vehicle sign for obstructing traffic is used
<font size="3" face="georgia, palatino">None is required. Motor vehicles operators are supposed to be alert and able to avoid any meeting or over taking situation.</font>
Do not adhere to only designated bike routes
<font size="3" face="georgia, palatino">There are no"designated only bike routes". There are supplied bike lanes that may be used by those less comfortable with traveling with motor vehicles.</font>
Constant vandalizing of our paved roads with graffiti to tell them where they're supposed to go.
<font size="3" face="georgia, palatino">You got me with that one. The paint does help protect the asphalt surface and will contribute to a longer life of the surface. With the advent of some of the new technologies with "Smart Phones" the trail marking system is becoming a thing of the past.
</font>Not to mention the annoying practices of clogging up traffic while ascending local mtn roads and who in there right mind would ride a bike on hwy 41 around the point of Lookout- where it's dangerous enough for cars.
<font size="3" face="georgia, palatino">Avoid those roads. If you were there for the scenery, so were the bikes. I routinely ride Hwy 129" The Dragon" which will make 41 look like a 4 lane hwy. To date, I haven't had a problem.</font>
Plus-they never win in a car vs. bike accident!</p>

<font size="3" face="georgia, palatino">Neither do cars with Tractor Trailers, Motorcycles with cars, or Corvettes with anything. Yet they all still use the same roads. So as far as bicycles, same roads, same rights, same rules!emoSmile </font></p>

I live in Sequatchie Valley on a road that is heavily traveled by cyclists due to the view. While I agree that they should be able to ride on our roads they are supremely annoying for motorists. No denying that regardless of how you feel about their rights.

<font size="3" face="georgia, palatino">Great last two days in the Alps. F. Nibali won yesterday and finished second today. Quite impressive riding by the wearer of the "Yellow Jersey".</font>

Carl- I do admire the paint protecting the asphalt-that's funny!
I'm not butting in on your post to start a big conflict, just voicing my opinion and adding a little color (hopefully)
I live right on the route of the 3 Mtn ride and have noticed more courtesy than in the past.
If a cyclist gets as far to the right as possible, I'll get as far left as possible. The 2 and 3 abreast is what pisses most people off.
Enjoy the Tour D'France.

<font size="3" face="georgia, palatino">Dragfish, I'll agree about the riding abreast. That is for quite country lanes and not with surrounding traffic. Most people who ride well understand that. If you want to talk, stop and have a discussion. </font>

Wished I had seen this thread earlier Carl. Vincenzo was in such great form that I doubt Froome or Contador would have have beat him to Paris. I think I'll climb both sides of Suck Creek this Sunday.
