Tourney on the G-4/15

My partner and I ran up the river from Mud Creek and fished a shallow bay. For an hour we enjoyed the best topwater bite I have seen in years for about an hour before it tappered off. We had a limit in less than an hour and we culled three times. All the keepers came from The buzz bait and Dingers. We weighed in at 11.80 and earned second, First was 15.55 with a dead fish penalty. They used pretty much the same pattern we did. What an awsome day! If you want to have some fun Go to the G and fish topwater around freshly emerging grass beds. Get there early b/c it may not last long. All of the LM weighed in had already spawned out for sure. The bass were long and slack gutted and were apparently trying to gain some weight. the topwater bite should take off in the next few weeks down there with allof the fish that are trying to get their weight back.

Thanks for the report churly. That just sounded fun. Most of us in the CFF T tried for an early TW bite, but couldn't get a thing. There's nothing in bass fishing - to me at least - that rivals a good TW strike.

It's interesting that you noted most of your fish spawning out, b/c I was reading Curt's and Alex's reports on BFHP this AM and they both reported the opposite and were expecting the bulk of the spawners to still be coming up in the next week or two. The areas you were in are a tad more shallow though and could have led to an earlier spawn, but I'm just spit-ballin'.

If I was going to fish a tourney down there I would go hunting the pre spawners, but the post spawn tw bite is the way to put 5 in the well quick.

fished the same tournament as churly. i think the fish there are all along the spawning cycle some coming, some going, some already gone. the fish i had were all healthy but not too bulky. I even caught one 15 inch spot that would probably only weugh a pound at best. I did not see any beds but i did not look hard either. I stayed in an area where i thought post and prespawners used.
