Does any one have any suggestions on improving mpg while towing. Do the superchips really help? I tow with a 2002 F150 with the big V8 (5.4 ? I think) and when towing my boat ( Trition 196 with Yam 200 hpdi) I only get aboat 9/10 mpgs. I drive from Dalton and try to run close to the speed limit. Anyone getting better economy while in tow.

Those 5.4 get beter gas mileage at 70 plus MPH. Mines gets 11-12 loaded with a Yamha 225 / 20' Stratos. Not gas friendly, thats for sure!

i went to napa to get a chip for my dodge and the guy working told me it wouldnt help on mpg emoScratch so i ended up not buying it.i am curious to hear from people who have tried them and see if it helps.

I used to have a 96 Dodge Dakota, pulling a smaller boat than I have now the best I got was 11, thats with the V6. My 2wd f150 99, with a 5.4 can get 14-15 pulling my 18ft G3 with a 150 on the back. My boat doesnt weigh what the glass boats do so thats the reason I think Im getting a little better. I can get 19-20 70mph not towing.

Buy yourself a big honkin vacuum gauge and mount that unit where you can see it safely and strive for the highest readings. The less that needle moves the better your wallet will be. I tow my tracker pro18 with a explorer with the sohc V6 and get 15 to 16 mpg, unburdened on the highway 21 to 22mpg.

Super chips don't work nearly as well for gas burners as they do oil diesel trucks. You can tune a diesel, not much you can do for a gasser.

The best thing you can do is slow down to 60-65 mph tops. Any faster and the needle starts moving fast.

Absolutely! BS hit this one onr the head. My F-150 with the 5.4 engine pulling my boat got 10-11.5 mpg at 70 plus mph. I backed off when gas got so high and see 16 plus miles per gallon. The big trucks don't like me running 60 on the interstate and 50 on the secondary roads but they don't pay my gas bill either. I just leave a little earlier than before and smile and wave to the idiots blowing by me. emoBigsmile

I tow with a 2006 scion xb i get about 28 to 30 towing my boat. But its either have the big boat and big truck, or try and get by wit hthe little boat and a roomy car

My 2001 F150 gets around 11/12 MPG towing my 4500 lb. 21' Rockwood hybrid camper with the OD turned off. I get around 16/17 MPG towing the Tracker with the OD turned on. The engine is a 4.2 V6. I tow both at 60MPH or less.
