Man, tournament morning was clear & cool with a crisp north wind. I was digging out my rainsuit for the morning ride! We knew there were some adjustments we were going to have to make with the front moving thru. Headed to a grass flat that had held fish earlier in the week & made a pass with shakey head & 10" worm. Got nothing in those 30 min. Felt the fish might want something a little smaller & black [cause black always works good for me after a front] Tied on the Zorro Whiplash & hung a black craw on it & had a fish pick it up on the 2nd cast. Swung & missed! But 2 cast later, get our 1st keeper. Move down the grass line a little further & get a mushy feeling. Swung on it & bow up real good. After a strong fight, bring a 7.87 to the well. Brent switches to the Whiplash & blk/blue craw & gets our 3rd keeper. Then he gets a 3# & about 12 I get our 5th keeper, but 2 of them are under 2#. Have a dry spell for an hour or so, head to a grass point with about 30 min. left & Brent gets a 3.25 to cull up some & soon after gets a 2# to get us a few more ounces. Ended up 3rd with 18.62# with 2nd biggest fish behind Camp & Hatcher's monster. We were real pleased with our day as Sept. has been a tough tourney for us in the past. Caught all our fish around grass with the Whiplash & craw.
Congrats to Camp & Hatcher for the win & Simpson & Daniels for 2nd, & all the top finishers for getting the job done on what proved to be the toughest CBA this season!

emoWorthy You two did well again! emoWorthy Derek and I needed that kicker. It is always nice to have a decent limit and then get a solid kicker to drive the weight on up. You and Brent have had one of those years where you have found that kicker several times to push your weights on up. I need some refresher lessons on how to do that. emoBigsmile Great job you two. emoToast Jmax

Thank you, guys! We've been blessed with some timely bites this year & some last minute decisions that have worked! More than anything, I'm blessed to be able to fish these tourneys with one of my boys! Wish I could fish them with each one of my sons & my daughter too! It's been fun, after mostly just fishing for fun, to come out & see if we could compete with the best bass fishermen in this area & be able to hold our own.
Saltyduck, whoopin you is our main motivation going into each tourney, even if it's by less than 4 oz.! emoPoke Hey, you had a fine tournament! Congrats!! emoApplause

Dad has been whippin my butt lately. I have been net man the last couple tourneys. Good work Dad.

I think there is something to a guy getting old does better usually this time of year. emoGeezer Less energy, the old guy slows down, moves slower, reels slower, reacts slower,...ex. this all plays into this time of year when the bass seem slower and less active too. emoPoke With this thought in mind Old Man Ben is fitting into a better presentation then you are Brent. emoBigsmile Jmax

Jmax, I could see how this theory is possible. I have to be good enough to slow down too. It is tough sometimes.

Don't let Brent fool ya, Jmax! Old man Ben had a few early, but he got his timing down & got 2 good ones in the last 30 minutes that meant probably 3 places for us! I think he still ended up catching more fish than I did!
