I have been trying to trade in my boat and get a bigger rig. I have the loan set up through my credit union just need to find a dealership that doesnot want to take me. My boat is a late 06 g3 eagle (Has 07 warrenties) I just paid 13500 for the boat this May before taxes. prep, etc. I can not find a marina, dearler ship that will give me more than 8000 for a trade, some offered 7000. Is it the time of year, the boat, cant get a clear answer except "Thats trade In value" yet the high retail on the boat is around 11,500 without any of the upgrades I have on the boat. Only one place would give me a fair price, but it was on a 35000 -40000 dollar rig which is a little over priced. Others want to deal but I would have quite a bit of maney upside down. Does anybody know of a dealership that they have had good luck with? Im looking for a newer or new rig 18-19 feet. ANy opinions or help on the situation would be appreciated. THanks
Scott

RE: Trading in my boat

Do you have any pictures of it what is it you would like for it how big is it and so on

You will most likely be upside down no matter where you go. Boats lose more the minute they become used than anything there is. My boat is just over 2 years old, I paid nearly $16k for it and when I was looking around to trade it back in the summer all I could get offered for trade was $6000. I will keep mine before I will go upside down that much. Don't get mad at the dealers though. They are all the same when it comes to this. Some are just worse than others.

Boats lose values as soon as they are hooked to your tow vehicle at the dealership. But they do hold their value after that initial depreciation for many moons as long as you take care of it. I sold a 10 year old tournament TX for 8 grand, it had been either garaged or covered all its life when not on the water.

I am looking for the same boat! Would you let someone take up payments on it? Send me a PM and maybe we can talk about it, I have found that these dealers are all the same. It's all about getting you HOOKED! I never buy new. Can get the same boat was DEMO in Guntersville for $7800 2007 model W/ 50hp

I expect the same type of issues when I look to trade in my 2002 model this winter for a Stratos or Triton.

"Zackley what he said," As soon as you pull it off the lot it is a used boat. You will owe more than the boat is worth for years - based on the boat and how you care for it. About the time you get it paid for is when the value levels out and remains for years. A clean well equiped bass boat that is about six years old will be compared to the market value of new boats. As we all know the price of boats have grown to rediculous. But the plus side to that is that by comparison an older boats value can go up as the cost of new comparible boats increase.

Your right about boats loosing value, EXCEPT for those Carolina Skiffs. I have been browsing around trying to figure out if I am going to buy one. You can buy a 2,3 or 4 year old boat for only $1,000.00 less than a brand new one! I dont know when those boats loose their value, but it aint in the first 5 years...its crazy! I am thinking its just like a Glock pistol, the boats are perfectly simple! They dont dress them out in un-needed fancy stuff, just great motors and solid-as-a-rock hulls. No fancy painting, chrome, decals and such. just my .02.

Spur they lose their value with the dealership. As nice as Doc's Skiff is and even as new as it is I bet they wouldn't offer him even half what he paid for it in trade. That is the kicker here. Dealers will not give half what the value of the boat is. I would trade mine in a heartbeat if I could just get 75% of it's value. Not going to happen though so I will keep it and use it for a few more years and then just buy another boat outright.
