transducer mounting

which brand of unit? They make through-hull transducers which require you to drill a hole in the bottom of your boat, or they make transducers that shoot through the hull; however, they only work on fiberglass hulls.

If you mount the transducer in the hull, it will only give you the hull temperature which can differ from the water temperature due to sunlight, cold winds, etc..... To get an accurate reading, a transducer should be in contact with the water.

Are you sure you aren't tightning it too tight? It should kick up if it hits something. Also, it needs to just skim below the surface, not go down much below the hull. I would check this before I tried mounting inside.

i fish real shallow most of the time and i keep hitting stumps rocks and all kind of things and it breaks the plastic mounts i have moved it since the last time i broke it witch was a week ago now it is in the center of the boat just below the jack plate but if it want read water temp thrugh the hull i may leave on the out side i use the water temp alot thanks

Mine is a very old Humminbird and it is a "thru the hull" transducer type, however it has a seperate line that monitors the water temp and it runs down the back of the transom. I think that'd solve your problem. Good luck!
